I'm being honest - I HATE Lois Lane.

The premise that someone who can leave his prints in concrete wanting to be with someone who's worse than a water balloon to him just rubs me the wrong way.

Her character is abrasive in all the ways that makes me run the other way.

She has put herself in danger KNOWING Superman is keeping at least an ear on her everytime. The wench is lucky that Superman has never had a real emergency when her behind is in trouble.

She has been written as a shallow merc for as long as I've read Superman, Always wanting to be "mrs. Superman " for the perks that come with it.

She shows a lack of common sense that I don't normally encounter in military brats - almost all of whom are rational even leveled folk used to adversity.

She has the emotions of a shrew,.... Demanding that Superman drop what he was doing a world away to show up by the time she counted to three or she would walk out of his life forever,.... on the thought that Cirel was his love-child with some other woman. The guy's been a boy scout as far as the WORLD is concerned but this "person" shows jelousy at wonderwoman and is ready to believe Supes has a few dozen women on tap around the planet.

As far back as I can remember - she has been showcased as someone I wouldn't want to know better.

Meh,... my first picture showcasing my hatred:

She is really a character I've never looked to. I'd rather read a woman who can fight for herself rather than wait for her man. So its a big Meh from me although I do have a soft spot for smallville's lois.

Well, Lois is trained in hand-to-hand combat, and can defend herself if need be. But when you're rolling with Superman, most of the scrubs you find yourself against tend to be too tough for Military Brat-fu.

Why would Superman want someone just like him or someone who pines over his every move? All those examples are like pre-90s. Some writers still writer her that way on occasion, but she's mostly a strong-willed woman. Having a crush on the world's greatest superhero isn't outlandish.

I don't mind lois, just try to avoid some of the silver age craziness of her own title. What I've always liked is that when she was created, she broke the mould for supporting female characters and love interests.

Like all characters, Lois is better with better writers. Read Rucka or Ellis' rendition of Lois to love her.

Old Lois traded too heavily on her Gender @ a time where people hesitated to do more than treat women like children A turn off for me at the time because I prefer women I don't have to supervise AND spend time protecting from themselves, let alone outside threats.

Don't forget that prior to COIE,.. Lois was a master of Kryptonian Kung Fu.
(Meh - still didn't keep her out of trouble)

Don't think the crush is my issue. My issue is the kind of person she is written as,...
case in point:

In this issue Lois is running with Wonder Woman because she's trying to find out how deep she and superman are. This is a modern version of her scoping out a rival???

I remember reading that issue and, while that topic did come up, it seemed like Lois was mostly just interviewing Wonder Woman on her position as the Themysciran ambassador. I could be wrong, though; it's been a long time since I read it.

Regardless, most of your issues seem to be with the pre-CoIE Lois, from a time when practically everything in Superman's comics was played for laughs and made little sense.

I saw the ambassador angle as her excuse.

Even Diana picked up on her real reason and was fairly relaxed,.. after all,.. if she "really" wanted Superman that way,... she's had years to seduce him in situations where Lois simply could not compete.

Once Lois realized this she stood down and then they started comparing notes on Kal.

I don't know, I saw it as an entirely reasonable human reaction, not some insidious plot by Lois "the heinous shrew" Lane to throw flimsy accusations at Diana. All we ever hear about is how Diana's as beautiful as a goddess, and Superman works closely with her a lot. Why wouldn't his wife have some lingering doubt in the back of her mind about whether Diana sees him in a romantic way? She can trust Clark 100%, but that doesn't mean she has to trust that the thought never entered Diana's mind.

Varient, you're a pathetic excuse for a poster. Seriously? Another "Just Becuase" thread from you. And seriously, you haven't learned how to spell because at this point?

Any excuse to post stuff from Superdickery.

Actually, that'd be the perfect way for Lois and Clark to carry on their relationship when he's dressed as Superman. Eyebrows would raise if Clark Kent's wife started messing around with Superman, but no one would think twice if they saw Superman with a sista. Hell, I'd be damn proud of Superman for dating a black girl.

I'm perfectly satisfied with Lois when she's actually explored by a good writer, such as Rucka. But I think Lois could use a moment like Mary Jane had in the 90's, where she beat up the Chameleon. Just show Lois kicking the s**t out of the Prankster or some other human villain.

Lois: "See? I don't always need your help, Clark."
Superman: "...Let's make out."

I can't remember which volume of Birds of Prey it was, but there was a time where Lois teamed up with Black Canary and kicked some ass.

seriously, you haven't learned how to spell because at this point?

The nonstandard spelling makes the thread searchable by the forum search engine whereas "because" is considered too common a term for it to pick up.:o
