Days of Future Past "Look upon the future and tremble!": The Official Apocalypse Thread

I saw the two posts above mine, but I guess should have used :o since I was being facetious.

From his tweet, and another one like it when X:A was announced, it sounds like he has no idea much like everyone else.

Id rather have Hayter, Goldman or Vaughn back with writing. Besides X2 (which had alot of writers contributing) I dont think they have done anything else I ever dug. Cant stand Supes Returns.

Edit: Trick R Treat is friggen awesome, Dougherty did a great job there.

IMO superman is probably a hard character to adapt on the big screen. Both Bryan Singer and Zack Snyders versions of SuperMan have been either hated by critics or by fans. People still consider the first superman movie the best and it might stay that way for a long time now.

Now regarding X-Men it's completely different than SuperMan, and IMO Bryan Singer just has a way better track record with X-Men and so do his writers.

Meh, Ill take MOS over Supes Returns any day.

Those guys just did revisions on X2 right? Could be wrong but I didnt think they were the main writers. Thought most of X2 came from Hayter.

I liked Superman Returns way more than I liked that garbage Man of Steel. It was all style and no substance.

I'd take Singers boring but well written one over it any day.

To each their own. SR is almost Lantern level to me, only a bit more boring. I dont think either nailed it, and I have big issues with both Directors/writers of those films when it comes down to it.

Not sure who was the main writer, all I know is that all 3 contributed to X-2.

So did Zack Penn. I believe him and Hayter combined X stories. Then Hayter wrote the script which was later revised by these guys. I think, could be wrong...

Except that Superman Returns was both boring AND poorly written. Seriously, the script for MOS made have had issues, but it was much better than SR. Still, X2 was fantastic, so that's encouraging.

Have you see the X2 documentaries? Watching those documentaries told me that those guys had a lot to contribute in X2's script.

And anyway, I could see why people would think MOS as the better film, some people just look at the action and visual effects and doesn't pay much attention to the story.

Sorry I will take Superman returns over Man of steel.

Doughery and harris did last rewrites on X2 script.Did at least 1 draft before
production and were rewriters/script doctors during production.

superman had an illegitimate child, and lex was planning another Land scheme...that is what a 210 plus million superman movie was spent on......

I couldn't tell if MOS was better than SR since I fell asleep in the middle of MOS.

Hilariously true:funny:

Superman Returns and Man of Steel were equally mediocre. But given the choice I think I'd pick the latter. I liked the supporting cast better and at least they tried to do something different, even if they mostly failed.

I'm not gonna defend Superman Returns simply because its the film that got in the way for Bryan Singer to direct X3. To be quite honest, I was happy when that film underperformed at the box-office and when it wasn't seen as the best thing ever. I also think it was boring.

But compare to Man of Steel? I think its fair to say they're even. Man of Steel had the action but Man of Steel just had poor story-telling and pacing. And another thing, I could see why some people are clinging to Man of Steel, because its recent, like I said - more action and its part of an ongoing series.

Or they just think that it's better. Attributing people liking MOS to some ulterior motive like "it being new" or "people like action" is both insulting to the movie's fans and kind of arrogant and condescending. As for me, I thought it was fantastic, and not just because of the action (though that did help). SR was just a misfire on every level.

"it being new" is a valid reason.

I still remember when TASM came out and a lot of people voted for it as the best Spider-Man movie and now look at the reaction of the people about that movie. Same with the Avengers, people loved it when it came out but after multiple viewings and after some time, some people don't see it anymore as the best thing ever.

And "people like action" is true. Everytime I see someone praised MOS, they usually give props to action and not the story.

And SR is not a misfire on every level, last time I checked, it got a freshrating at Rotten Tomatoes.

I loved Man of Steel. Definitely didn't deserve the beating critics gave it.
