looking for someone that knows his avengers comic book history well.

My first glimpse of an avengers comic book was in the early mid 80s.All I can remember is some sort of villain who can transform his face into stone. If anyavengers fanatic out there can please help me out I would be very grateful. Its very important too me since its connected too a childhood memory.
