I've got to ask this. How old are all of you who think the original DD movie (not director's cut) was a bad movie? You are here, so you are obviously comic book fans. Is it age? Is it that you are hardcore DD comic fans? Just wondering, b/c even though I thought the Director's cut was a much better movie, I thought the theatrical release was a good movie on its own. Much better than two movies I thought totally sucked which were Punisher and Fantastic Four. And not that it matters, but Roger Ebert agrees. I guess hardcore DD fans want the Frank Miller blood/violence, but Marvel was trying to sell to a general audience, not just those who read the comics. Technically speaking, this movie made a lot of money. It killed if you count DVD sales. I've never seen Elektra, so I can't voice an opinion; but, I try to stay away from most movies that I have a feeling are going to blow until I've heard some feedback from friends. So if top critics thought the original DD was good, if Marvel thought it was good, if the movie and dvd's raked in the $, all I can say is that either FOX was ill that it didn't make Spider-Man type money (no movie will ever make that) or perhaps they just heard too much complaining from unhappy comic book fans all over the web that they just gave up... just kidding....
All I'm saying is that if you compare DD to FF or to Punisher, the plot was better, the acting was better, the dialogue was better, the backgrounds/locations were better.... EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THE DD movie was better if you aren't a DIE HARD "you can't change the comics" fan. NONE of the actors ruined the DD movie. And I'm not saying the actors ruined FF or the Punisher, but I guess they did all they could do with what they had.
Although I don't want to see an end to superhero movies being produced, I say stop rewarding hollywood by paying to see their horrible movies with bad plots, bad screenplays and bad acting.
As far as DD2 is concerned, I would be completely happy with the same cast/director as I thought nothing disastrous happened the first time, but with that being said, it wouldn't kill me to see a little Frank Miller-type influence for the next one either.
