I haven’t watched “Saturday Night Live” in years – or if I have, it’s merely been a repeat – so I’m not familiar with the “MacGruber” sketch, but by the looks/sounds of it, it’s Will Forte taking the piss out of 80s classic “MacGyver”, right?

Is there enough in there for a movie? Can the joke be stretched to 90 minutes?

“SNL” producer Lorne Michaels tells THR he’s looking to do a feature-film version of “MacGruber” with Will Forte.

Besides “The Blues Brothers” and “Wayne’s World”, most of the films that have been inspired by “Saturday Night Live” sketches – be it “The Ladies Man”, “Coneheads”, “Superstar”, “It's Pat” or “Stuart Saves His Family” – have crashed-and-burned at the box office. Wonder what’s got Michaels think this one will be any different? Is it the star-power of, er, Forte?

Yeah, I don't know about this one.

Not sure about this one either.

One has to wonder how they'll make a 90-minute movie out of a sketch involving some poor man's McGyver getting blown up (which occurs at the end of each one no less).

Plus, most SNL-based films besides the Wayne's World series have sucked.

Macgruber!!!

Takin' everyday items and gettin' outta sticky situations!

Macgruber!!

Does anybody else think this is the worst decade in SNL history?

The 2000's haven't been terribly kind to the show, that's for sure.

Ugh...no MacGruber movie. If anything, make a movie with Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake as the "Dick in a Box" guys. Guaranteed box office gold and there's a chance it could actually be funny.

It started out okay, got sour in the middle, and it seems to be ending this decade on a high note.

Definitely a bad idea, but if they actually made it I would definitely watch it just because I love the MacGruber character.

MacGruber is the most irritating sketch in SNL history. Both because it's really bad, and because it's used a lot. I have watched maybe 4 episodes of SNL in the past 2 years, and a MacGruber sketch has popped up in all of them, which makes me believe he is in every freaking episode.

SNL is horrible now.

The Justin Timberlake Episode was the best one of the last season.

The sketches have already stopped being funny a long time ago. Why drag it out with a miserable 80 minute movie?

Who is telling Lorne Michaels that this is a good idea?

The only good cast members are Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Seth Meyers (too bad he's only on Weekend Update), Will Forte (sometimes) and Justin Timberlake.

They really need to get rid of Keenan and get a skinny black guy so he can do the Obama impression instead of a Mexican guy doing an impression of a black guy.

I agree. The show has been improving as of late, but making a movie out of such a tired sketch is a massive step in the wrong direction. :down

I can't hate on Keenan, he's synonymous with my childhood.

Fair enough but my point about getting a skinny black guy remains.

Tracy Morgan was able to play fat guys and skinny guys-- but they always ended up being Tracy Morgan. :p

I can't hate on Kenan either because franky, I think he's an asset to the show *dodges flames*. But I do agree that they need to get a skinny black guy on the show too. I want to see someone with a better Obama impression, because Fred Armisen's comes off too much like Kermit the Frog.

They had Garrett Morris, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock and Tim Meadows. The last few Skinny black guys they had on SNL (Dean Edwards, Gerald Minor, Finesse Mitchell) did not last long and none of them had the impact that Morris, Murphy or Meadows did. Tracy Morgan was a big guy.

Also, Sandler needs to host Saturday Night Live. I am surprised he hasn't ever hosted the show. He's only made two appearances total since he left the show in 1995.

SNL can never duplicate the success of Eddie Murphy or the longevity of Tim Meadows. Finesse Mitchell only lasted two seasons. Dean Edwards lasted only one season and the only thing he did worth a damn was Chris Tucker. Gerald Minor was a non-factor. Garrett Morris was a part of the original cast, Murphy went on to be one of the biggest comedic actors of the 80's, Chris Rock has had a semi-successful acting career and is a successful stand up comic and Meadows lasted a decade.

SNL right now is going through their "fat black guy" phase, hoping to have similar success with Kenan as they did with Tracy Morgan.

The only movie I can see the mainstream getting behind is a Palin spoof movie. The Palin skits are the only time anyone outside the core fanbase has been interested in the show, at least in the last several years.
