Stine's Goosebumps Rises at Sony
Source:Variety
May 15, 2008

Neil Moritz knows a thing or two about the biz. And one thing he knows for certain - kiddie horror fare works. His most recently accomplishment was producing the PG-13 thriller Prom Nighthttp://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/films.php?id=1105. Yes indeedy - that certainly worked when it came down to coin.

According to Variety, Moritz is co-producing, with Scholastic Media's Deborah Forte, the big screen adaptation of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps for Sony's Columbia Pictures. Until now, the popular series has never reached the big screen. A live action television show ran in the '90s.

Mortiz and Forte are currently looking for a writer to deliver a script that will be put on the fast track. And naturally, there's talk of "franchise potential."

 If they were to turn any of Stine's franchises into a movie I'd pick The Fear Street: The Cataluna Chronicles, or The Fear Street Saga.

I'm not sure how'd they do a Goosebumps movie, that's based on the seeries.

I guess they're going to choose the best from the series?

I would love to see a Goosebumps movie..........15 years ago.

We all know it's all about Say Cheese... And Die!

If they want to make a movie for the TEEN market then Fear Street would indeed be the best choice. Trying to sell Goosebumps to the teen audience is kind of pointless.

However...

If they are making the movie for kids then I'll support the movie. As long as they start with The Haunted Mask. :o

lol. Strange indeed, but I wouldn't oppose the idea.

Its obvious whats going on. They are trying to make Goosebumps relevant again. Why not? Those were good books. And they were only 90 pages! Unlike the damn Harry Potter books that are the size of a bible. :o

I'd LOVE to see the one about the kid who was a comic-geek, whose fave was a villian (can't remember the name)!
AWESOME BOOK, AWESOME EPISODE, WOULD BE AN AWESOME MOVIE!!!!

I think they could easily get away with it... since its not really a collective series that tells a story, the best way i'd go about it would be bring elements from the most popular books together with many nods to the stories... i'd probably make it at a haunted carnival.. where you can add a whole bunch of elements from the books... the most memorable books to me probably were...

Welcome to dead house
Stay out of the basement
Monster Blood
Say Cheese and Die
Night of the Living Dummy
The Haunted Mask
Be Careful What You Wish For...
The Werewolf of Fever Swamp
One Day at Horrorland
The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight
Go Eat Worms!
A Night in Terror Tower
The Cuckoo Clock Of Doom

Did anyone ever play the Horror land cpu game? it starred jeff goldblum and had several nods to the books... i think a movie like that could work out well... rather then just focusing on a single book.

I loved the books, i wouldn't mind seeing them make an anthology series on the big screen with this. I think George A. Romero (maker of "Creepshow") should be one of the producers.

I never got round to reading them all but I quite liked Attack of the Mutant, the comic book one.. I could see Haunted Mask, HorrorLand, Scarecrow Walks at Midnight and Say Cheese and Die books getting the big screen treatment, maybe the Haunted School, Werewolf Skin or Attack of the Jack-O-Latterns too.. although they would have to alter them and make the characters older than 12 and 'spice' up the scares for them to work imo.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was way cooler than Goosebumps.

I remember the books and tv show i used to e a big fan of them.

Still watch the show sometimes when its on.
