Madman Adaptation is Moving Forward

Source: Variety
December 19, 2006

Dimension Films has made a deal to turn the Michael Allred-created comic book Madman into a live-action film, reports Variety.

George Huang ("Swimming With Sharks") will direct a script he'll write with Allred. Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan will produce via their Troublemaker Studios.

Madman is a post-modernist reimagining of the Frankenstein tale, with a superhero twist. The title character, killed in a car accident, is reanimated by an eccentric doc who names him Frank Einstein and instills in him enhanced senses, psychic power and exceptional physical skills. The doc can't fix his creature's face, so Madman wears a costume modeled after his fave superhero to hide his scars.

The project, spearheaded by Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein and production president Richard Saperstein, will follow a template similar to Sin City, which Troublemaker produced and Rodriguez directed with creator Frank Miller for Dimension.

As with that film, the creative behind the comic book is an active part of the creative process. And, like Sin City, Madman will be shot entirely at Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Texas.

Great news, I think.

BTW, I loved Swimming with Sharks, so I have no worries about this movie

I'm ****in' interested! Hell YES! I've been waiting on this movie for years.

Now they just need to call Depp.

Why Depp? He is always #1 in any top list of the main characters. I think they should cast someone, who isn't 30 yet and famous enough.

Out of all comic characters everywhere the only one I think fits Depp perfectly is Frank Einstein.

Is there anybody, who knows more info about Madman comics?

Yes, this is great news. Madman is in good hands, and I can't wait to see it on the big screen.

I was under the impression that Rodruiguez was going to direct. I don't know much about this other guy.

^^^

He made Swimming with Sharks. That was great movie, it had success from critics' reviews and also some awards. Spacey owns

Haven'tr seen it. I may check it out now that I'm graduated from college and will have no job :(

So could anybody please give me more info about this superhero?

He's a longtime friend of Robert Rodriguez and collaborator on his last 3 or 4 projects. He has been working on the script for the Madman movie with Allred and Rodriguez for a couple of years now.
And it was reported that they had already approached Johnny Depp for the role.

It's hard to just tell you about him. You should read some of it. It's really good.

"but I can't tell you who it is yet... When we announce it, you're gonna be like 'What?', then you'll think about it for a second and see that it's perfect."

I guess that doesn't mean Depp

I'm guessing that some of the weirder Mormon references from the Madman comic are going to be left out of the movie. Even though Allred is a Mormon, I can't see him putting the stuff about the 3 Nephites in a movie version.

YESSS!!!! Mike Allred is the best! and I love Madman and his futuristic ginchie beatnik world!!!!
I can't wait for this!!

Oh and shouldn't this be in the Msc. Comics films forum? That's where I looked first, and I was going to start a new thread, but instead used Search and found this thread!

it's confusing. i thought it was darkhorse and now it's image?

It sucks for the smaller comic companies b/c they dont get that full 3d intro in the beginning of their movies.

For example..Sin City didn't have a Dark Horse logo in the opening credits. honest to god, those intros do get annoying but they work.

Madman is not a DC comic. It will be published by Image now.

I realized that after I posted it. I was thinking of Deadman not Madman. Still this should be Misc. Comics movies forum.

That's because "Sin City" and "Madman" are creator owned and not company owned.
The Mask had some kind of Dark Horse logo, didn't it?
