Has anybody here ever get into the hobby? I just recently started getting into it with my downtime at work (I work graveyard shifts). I still need practice but I'm getting there:

I figured I'd learn the basics since the basics are openly exposed all over the internet for research, which is kind of a good thing because it forces the "magicians" to think of new tricks.

I got into it back in the day. I can still do a couple card tricks and I basically know how to do any trick I see. I love sleight of hand. The skill it takes is awesome.

I have to disagree with you though about how to do the tricks being on the internet. I mean, it's inevitable that all the secrets would be online, but it really sucks. The "magic" of the tricks is in no one knowing how they're done. It ruins it when anybody that wants to can look up a how-to video on Youtube.

Oh you wouldn't believe how much is in youtube. It's ridiculous. But I did find a good quote:

"I still think You can appreciate magic that's been around forever but done well."

Illusion, Michael! A trick is something a ****e does for money...

Or cocaine.

I recently started practicing the "soda restoration" trick, I'm still a beginner so be gentle!

I actually appreciate a really well-done magic trick, even if I start to piece together how they physically must do it. I actually appreciate it more then!

I have a friend who's a professional card magician, and he just makes it look so easy. But then I start to think how he could possibly pull it off, and he really must have the ability to memorize the order of an entire deck in less than 10 seconds and put cards in all kinds of places on himself without a single person noticing. One of my most observant friends actually sat down at a table with him as a volunteer at his show and didn't see anything amiss. She did realize that one of the sounds she heard was of him palming a card, but she realized this waaay after the show was over. :funny: And he does it all while talking conversationally the whole time.

All that's more impressive than "magic!" :funny:
