"Make America Great Again!": The TRUMP Thread!!! - - Part 11

Ultimately, the Republican Party will have to drop the "Trump base" or fade into obscurity. I know there are plenty of young people my age who lean more towards fiscal conservatism, and would fit under the Republican umbrella. But many have already bailed after this election season and those that are left have lost faith in the party and are only staying there because they don't want Hillary. Even my lifelong Republican Dad is finding himself in the latter group.

Same with my family. A bunch of repubs who can't stomach voting for T-Rump.

EDIT: One of them (an uncle) who has NEVER voted for a dem, says he'll vote for Clinton.

Can we really count on the polls...I mean...Brexit

Thanks for that link from the previous thread Messiah Decoy.

Maybe a little off topic, but something I notice from this thread. People from other countries seem to be much more interested in the internal politics of the US than US citizens seem to be about issues outside the US. When some friends of mine were visiting from Australia, I noticed that they were very well informed about global politics and economics; much more so than most US citizens.

I think that people in the US tend to think the world revolves around them and that (almost) nothing else matters.

Too be fair the British polls were all over the place and apparently there is a history of British polls just not being accurate.

The big issue with the Brexit polls was that the only other time something like it had been done was about 40 years before, the polling companies didn't have the data to build their models with.

One of the most conservative people I know admitted to me that they're going to sit this presidential election out.

It kind of does if you live in America. America is a giant. It controls the world's largest military and every other liberal democracy is dependent on that military with the possible exception of the French and British. Even so, the American president can end the world with the turn of a key.

European nations, and countries like Australia are much more dependent on the United States than vice versa.

Like it or not, the United States is the political, cultural and economic center of our world. It's what Britain was in the 19th century, and what China wants to be in this century.

Look at these primary polls.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/gop_pres_primary/

Trump and Cruz got the vast majority of support with not that many going for the moderate (Kasich).

So I'm not so sure the extremists in the Republican Party are just the vocal minority. I fear the reasonable Republicans are greatly outnumbered.

I thought Kasich would have been a bigger player but I think he got in the race too late and he had Ohio's Medicaid expansion hanging around his neck not making him "extreme" enough. It's a shame because out of all of the GOP candidates he's the one who would be absolutely killing Hillary right now in the general election. He's a straight shooter type, has a good temperament and I think independents would probably like that he compromised and expanded Medicaid in his state. He probably could have stolen quite a few Bernie holdouts as well. And unlike Trump I don't think Kasich would be doing anything stupid to overshadow all of Hillary's e-mail issues so the news cycle would have been all about her trustworthy problems.

That's true but the global economy is important to those of us in the US also. We've moved from manufacturing so that is generally done elsewhere. Political issues also affect our daIly lives. My sense is that a lot of us prefer to stick our heads in the sand. I suppose we can afford to do that to a greater extent than others, it that doesn't make it smart.

Yeah, not enough precedent.

Thanks also for the link in the old thread, just seen it.

Any of yall encountered young teens that are Trumpeteers? My 15 year old cousin and his school friends think Trump is just the best thing ever. That hes going "to make america great again". Apparently their teacher is a huge Trump supporter anf has his class covering the election. That a teacher is getting impressionable teens and my cousin to look at that deplorable man like some sort of savior irritates the **** out of me. I can only imagine the sort of **** that teacher says about Democrats. And it doesnt help that my cousins parents are Trump supporters and hardcore GOP. He's just ****ed at home and at school.

Was this a red state or rural area by chance?

That's what all the liberal colleges and their brainwashing professors are for, to get rid of that specific kind of indoctrinated stupidity. :cwink:

I heard on the radio that Trump is now openly considering okaying Russia's take over of Crimea. For all his talk about Obama being gweak etc he seems awfully eager to roll right over for Putin. What the hell do right wingers make of all this?

The average voter probably doesnt give a single **** about Crimea. Most likely dont even know where Crimea is. Voter's main concerns are according to polls which party gets to fill the seats of SCOTUS and the economy as far as it effects them on a personal level. Crimea wouldnt even crack the voter's top 100 concerns.

Crimea specifically doesn't but one of Trump and his supporters biggest talking points is showing strength and throwing our military's weight around. In that context it is strange.

But the average voter doesnt care about Crimea or Crimeans so us throwing our weight around there is going to be irrelevent to the Trumpeteers. Telling a trumpeteer that Trump is going to let Russia have Crimea would elicit a "So what?" response.

Besides, not even Obama or a strong anti russian president would send our troops into Crimea to stop Russia. We'd embargo, and use UN tactics, and considering the Trumpeteers feelings about the UN and embargos theyd likely consider embargos and UN tactics even weaker than just staying out of it.

I know a few actual Trump fans from my high school, most have no idea what they're talking about, though. There's a few who actually agree with his platform (it's rural Midwest, after all) but for the most part those of my peers planning to vote for him are more Anti-Hillary than Pro-Trump.

Yep. The late entry hurt him from the get go, but if the GOP had backed him from the start instead of screwing around with Jeb, then I think he could have stood a chance. They should have then talked down the other moderate candidates early in the race, so that just one could stay in for the long run and rake in all the votes not taken by Cruz and Trump. Any voters that would ditch him over Medicaid wouldn't be voting for him in the primary anyway, and he could have made up for in the General Election by drawing independents away from Hillary and highlighting her flaws. But such is life....
