A man in his 40s died early Sunday morning after RCMP jolted him with a Taser at the Vancouver International Airport, police said.
Airport security called the Mounties for assistance after an unidentified man began pounding on windows and throwing chairs and computer equipment in the customs area shortly after arriving on an international flight at 1:30 a.m., Richmond RCMP Sgt. Pierre Lemaitre told CBC News.

Richmond RCMP Sgt. Pierre Lemaitre, above, said the man was enraged, pounding on windows and throwing chairs and computer equipment, and refused to calm down.

"We arrived and tried to calm the man," Lemaitre said. "We tried through gestures to get him to put his hands down on the desk … to no avail."
When he ignored orders to calm down, police used a stun gun on the man.
The man dropped to the floor and police said it took three officers to handcuff him. He then lost consciousness and appeared to go into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the airport, the CBC's Chris Brown reported.
Few other details have been disclosed other than the man spoke an Eastern European language and a flight from Poland touched down about an hour before the incident, Brown said.
Taser devices are controversial because of the dozen North American deaths resulting from their use. There has been debate about how safe these devices are when dealing with certain kinds of people who are delirious or wound up, Brown said.
Police are investigating and a toxicology report will be done to determine whether there were drugs in the man's system. They will be interviewing customs officers and flight attendants, Brown reported.
International arrivals were rerouted but there were no delays in flight schedules.

Be warned, footage may be unsettling to some!

People die from pepper spray too. Hell, people die from being handcuffed (arms behind the back apparently causes asphixiation sometimes). The taser is used every day across the country, and only a few stories every now and then pop up about somebody dying from them.

I think this was the second killing done by a taser within a year. I believe the first one was an elder man, who had a troubled heart.

what was this guy's issue? Why was he stomping around and throwing stuff in the first place?

As far as I've heard he was trying ot meet (his mother ?) who was waiting at another part of the airport but because of the launguage barrier wasn't aloud to get there to meet her.

Just noticed this

"We arrived and tried to calm the man," Lemaitre said. "We tried through gestures to get him to put his hands down on the desk … to no avail."

Yeah except where the yjust tased his a-s-s right there. Funny how the video tells a COMPLETLY different take then the cops.

Police are investigating and a toxicology report will be done to determine whether there were drugs in the man's system.

Oh of course.....drugs :whatever:

the story is like 2 or 3 weeks old
There's at least a week delay for Canadian news crossing the border into the United States :p

It's like they run out of local stuff and go "Uhh... well... here's what happened in Canada this week..."

He was already off the flight when this happened, it wasn't while he was waiting to board.

He was stuck in the airport customs area not sure what to do for about 5 or 6 hours. His mother was there looking for him to pick him up but wasn't able to be helped to find him during that time for whatever reason. Looks like he just got stressed out. The thing I don't understand is how there are seemingly no translators in an international airport that would have diffused this situation immediately. Instead a guy gets killed for no reason.

You'd be surprised to hear how often cops change a story around so that they wont get in trouble. Since they represent the law, the courts always take their word for it.

Somebody posted a graphic for a possible t-shirt design for "dont taser me, bro!" It has a brown background, it was pretty cool. where is it?

On a side note, check this taser out:
