Iron Man Mandarin is being played by...??

Why are you so sure he will be called as The Mandarin? I mean just look at Ras from Batman Begins. His named was mentioned only 2-3 times.

Yeah, but it seemed to me that he gave himself that name and Henri Ducard could have been his real name. Seemed like that was what the filmmakers were implying on some level. But the point is that his name is mentioned.

Making Mandarin a Middle Eastern terrorist is a decision that was not a necessity. Terrorist networks (for example, Al Qaeda) have connections and members all over the world. Mandarin could have been allied to Middle Eastern terrorists, or they could have just not called this villain Mandarin at all.

But it wouldn't look realistic nowadays. I doubt casual movie goer won't wonder how can Chinese be Mid Eastern terrorist and as we know Mid East is very important part of the story.

:cmad: using the word "oriental" is more offensive in describing asians.

I[/] am an Asian American, and that's the first time I've heard that.

I've gone over this already. Mandarin could be financially supporting the terrorists or otherwise allied with them without actually being part of their organization. And the character doesn't have to be called "Mandarin" at all if he's going to be so different from the actual comic character.

Toub is playing thr Mandarin according to Empire Film mag. They had a shot of Tony forging the Iron Man mask with pictures of the cast and who they are playing. Empire dont normally report on gossip so this may well be true.

Ok, I've read through this whole thread. First off, THE MANDARIN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IRON MAN'S ORIGINS! That said, it doesn't matter who captures Tony, they should have no connections to the Mandarin. I'm sick of hearing that excuse. Mandarin is Chinese, he has always been Chinese, and he should be Chinese in the movie. Second, this whole argument about it being unbelievable for Mandarin to be the leader of a Middle Easter terrorist group is rediculous. Anybody who thinks that the Mandarin wouldn't work with middle eastern terrorists has never read a comic with the Mandarin in it. Mandarin hired mercs from other countries all the time.

actually youre kind of wrong.

In the John Byrne written issues of Iron Man, he had the Mandarin the master 0f Wong Chu, and planned for Starks capture.

You're right, sorry about that. However, most of the origin stories have the two seperate.

Iron Man Correction
Shaun Toub is Yin Sen not Mandarin

In an Iron Man set visit in the June issue of Empire we incorrectly identified actor Shaun Toub as playing the villain The Mandarin. He in fact plays Yin Sen, who, in the comic books, is Tony Stark's fellow prisoner of war in Vietnam (in the movie this is updated to the Gulf War). Full details of Yin Sen's part in the film and casting of Mandarin are yet to be announced by Paramount. All other elements of the story are correct and totally awesome.

Apologies to readers and Paramount for this error. The News Editor has been taken out the back for a vicious beating with Iron Man Issue #1 (reduction in value be damned!) and instructed to cut back on his daytime drinking.

I hate that they're not quoting anyone, and that they may be passing current internet rumors off as fact, like they were doing naming him as The Mandarin. But I think it's solid enough until Jon comes back to confirm it.

Thanks for bringing it here, He-Man, it's appreciated. :yay:

Is the Mandarin going to use magic or technology for his rings?

His rings were always advanced alien technology in the comics but in the movie I think they're just going to be fashion accessories. Of course we don't even know who is playing Mandarin so it's total guessing as to what he will be like.

I know his comic origin and they were alien tech but they did magical things. I hope more news on him comes out soon.

I think most Central Asians tend to be of Turkic or Mongolian descent. The last name "Kahn" doesn't sound Arab or Persian. I would associate it with India, China, or Mongolia.

Thank you He-man. I personally hated the rumor that Toub was playing The Mandarin. Hopefully we can have at least an asian actor to play The Mandarin, the way it should be.

Thanks. I always thought Mandarin was of Asian decent not persian.

Yin Sen? I thought the events took place in Middle East, not in Vietnam

^Doesn't mean the doctor they kidnap in addition to Stark can't be the Yin Sen-type character(without that actually being his name).

Hmmm...Still no official word on Mandarin yet?

Are we sure that he's still in the movie?
