Came across the article below and it states that Toubs is playing Yinsin/ The Mandarin (probably an error). Would you be ok with it if they went the Batman Begins Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul route or should they stay the away from that?

Film Opens May 2, 2008
Actor Robert Downey Jr. had a few words to say about his upcoming role as Tony Stark/Iron Man to The Telegraph. Buzz has been growing on the film ever since the release of the promo pictures with Iron Man's grey -- rather than red and yellow -- suit.
"He's a superhero who is just a man. Not that I wouldn't play a guy who got bit by a spider or who has some freaky connection with bats, but I think this is a little more accessible.

"I guess that when Stan Lee created the character back in the mid-1960s -- to see if he could base a superhero on a hard-partying, womanizing billionaire who manufactures weapons, and still make him likeable enough to sell comic books -- he clearly won his bet. Tony Stark is someone who has the ability to be right at the forefront of science and we are finding out more and more nowadays that science and mythology are becoming somewhat interchangeable. Some of the things that seemed really far-fetched aren't any more."

Jon Favreau will directs the flick. Terrence Howard joins Downey as Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes / War Machine and Gwyneth Paltrow has been cast as Stark's love interest, Virginia "Pepper" Potts. Shaun Toub has been cast as Yinsin / the Mandarin.

I'm still not convinced, or thrilled with the notion, he's playing the Mandarin.

I'm thinking they're just being thorough in that Toub has had these characters attached to him, and don't care to look for official word of casting, (which we know doesn't exist. In this case, a smart choice for a throw-off article). Note the misspelling of "Yinsin" as currently put forth by the IMDB.

Answering your question though, I'd hate it :) I admit I'm tired of the talk of plot devices for this movie mimicking any other flick's, much less it's DC forebear. I think one big reveal, (the Stane affair), is enough.

Also interesting, the power of that MySpace page. Back somewhere in the "Questions for Jon" thread, a poster introduced Jon to the "creation of Iron Man" portion of Stan Lee's book. He obviously shared that with Downey who regurgitates it whenever he's asked for comment.

It's already been stated he's NOT playing the Mandarin but the character in the cave with him who helps him escape. Unless Fergus changed that character into someone who becomes The Mandarin later.

^^^^Where and when was that stated ?

Are you sure? Link?

Toub looks like a great choice for Mandarin and I still can't understand why he can't play the main villian of the movie.
