I thought this might be of interest to some folks since we will also be getting the Anime DVD Tie-In to TDK in July

Batman: Death Mask #1 (of 4)

Written by Yoshinori Natsume; Art and Cover by Natsume

Acclaimed artist Yoshinori Natsume (Toguri) makes his American comics debut with this Prestige Format miniseries that presents an original Batman manga tale! There's a new serial killer in Gotham, and he may have ties to the training Bruce Wayne acquired as a young man in Japan. Does the murderer know Bruce Wayne is the Batman?

I like the use of the japanese masks. Reminds me of a lot of the old samurai flicks. But like a lot of fans I am apprehensive about the growing popularity of magna for mainstream characters. I like it as a style, but is it right for Bats?

Here is another example of his work

not really a big Manga-fan, but I am, of course, a big Batman-fan, so I guess I'll be looking into this

Batman with his mask on looks good there, but I hate everyones faces without the masks.

Yea I prefer the style we've been seeing for the TDK anime tie ins a lot more.

There are way better artists that could've took on this other than Yoshinori Natsume. His art is rather mediocre in my opinion.

not a big fan of manga faces all looking alike

Here are some unfinished pages from issue 1.

Spoilers just in case.

That first page is freaky :wow:. I think I will pick this up, it looks intruiging. It's as if Bruce grew up in Tokyo instead of Gotham.

Oh, fantastic. Manga with talent. I'd forgotten that could exist.

I wasn't going to pick this up, but those preview pages intrigue me.

I picked it up yesterday after being disappointed All-Star was moved to the 30th. I loved how they made this a manga. It feels much more authentic. The splash on the 2nd page was awesome. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest.

It also gets me pumped for Batman: Gotham Knight.

the first issue is good. Very good.

i've never really read manga before it, and the whole reading backwards thing is annoying at first

It was pretty good. I'm sort of hoping DC tries Manga with some of their other characters.

Is this the first time either DC or Marvel tried the manga format?

I really enjoyed it. I was surprised because the only Manga i've read is the Spider-Man J stuff, which kind of sucks (imo)...

I gambled with this one, and it was well worth it.
