David Fincher’s Mank Will Be Released in October, Says Screenwriter Eric Roth

In an appearance on Pardon My Take (and a hat tip to Joe Frady for spotting), Roth reveals the film is set for an October release on Netflix. “It’s an incredible piece,” he says. “He did a black-and-white ’30s movie. It looks like a ’30s movie and feels like one.” He also joked, “Six people will go see it, but it’s pretty amazing.” Later in the chat, he also revealed a Truffaut-style biopic on The Doors manager Danny Sugerman was once in the works that he was set to script, with Fincher producing, and none other than Fred Durst directing, but it never moved forward.

I'm very impatient for this. I'm glad Fincher has found success on Netflix with House of Cards, Mindhunter, and Love, Death & Robots, but I've been jonesing for a new film from him badly.

A master filmmaker with a master performer. Give me it.

Zodiac is easily my favorite Fincher. I looooved Fight Club in 99, that is when I first started getting into movies intensely, but it hasn't aged quite as well as Se7en and Zodiac have. But those three are my favorites. I don't care for a number of his movies and straight up disliked Benjamin Button and Gone Girl, but this one looks very promising and a good match for his sensibilities.

I think the academy will honor Netflix movies more this year...but I assume if one netflix movie has a shot, it’s gonna be Da 5 Bloods...it‘s pretty good and also because of BLM and Chadwick Boseman

It's great no doubt, but I prefer Black Swan and Inception by a huge margin in that year.

We'll see with this film, Fincher's lastest films have been pretty good, but he hasn't matched his best films IMO.

Chadwick Boseman has a more substantial role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

Look out for Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and the Black Messiah as well.
