Mann and De Niro Reunite for Machine

Flashback.

The novel is mainly told through the eyes of the older Machine (Robert) as he's trying to track down who set him up, but there are numerous flashbacks which set up his predicament. You basically learn how he became the Machine. There's a nice compare and contrast to how he used to be and what he is now.

It's definitely more Heat than Collateral. It was meant for De Niro -- even before he signed on, that was the first actor you thought of.

Kind of sounds like Unforgiven, Is it an action movie would you say ? and is it gonna need a younger actor to play Frankie in the flashbacks ?

Had you read the book before the movie was announced ? I heard that Winslow wrote it with De Niro in mind.

Somewhat. Every time there's an action beat it's meant to be there -- to illustrate a point of how hardened the Machine becomes over the years. The action makes sense, basically. Winslow is a really interesting writer.

I hadn't read the novel before the film, but right after it was announced, I bought it immediately. It didn't disappoint.

As for a younger actor... maybe. You'll definitely need one for when Machine is seventeen and is hired to drive a mafioso's wife around.

Looks to be a good film. From the first post at least.
