Comics Marc Guggenheim's latest explanation for why some folks hate Brand New Day

I have nothing against Dan Slott. Unlike Guggenheim, he can write Spidey and actually make his lines FUNNY. Zeb wells also does a great job as seen in Peter Parker Spider-man.

Gale however, needs to be kicked off as most would agree. :csad:

Gale is pretty much gone anyway.

And, back on topic, Gugg's explanation shows how far off base the creative teams are in explaining why the fans are unhappy with this new direction.

And again... if you read the text, it's not an "explanation".

:whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

He actually seemed to have lowered the value of civil unions in his definition. Civil unions are like marriage, inasmuch as there are tax exemptions, government documentation, and processes through which one goes in order to aquire/cancel the union.

De-marrying a character with magic and retconning them into having moved in together for however many years doesn't qualify as a civil union, as he suggests in his offhanded (and probably instigated) comment.

His comment almost infers that civil unions are basically like going steady, but for gay people. It could have been sarcastic, and it could have been some desperate grasp for cleverness (since he's not exactly the most eloquent or sophisticated comic book writer out there). Either way, it was a stupid thing to say. Not necessarily because of how offensive it was or wasn't, but because he used his references incorrectly.

So Mephisto magically erases history, doesn't change a thing tho when CHANGING history, yet does create magical (reverse)civil unions where despite all the changes, everything still happened, in a union, but not a marriage.

And if you don't buy that, figuratively or literally, you must be for gay marriage.

Dumb statement, either way you cut it or try to explain it, if you want to try.

He was talking about angry fan letters, and the spidey creative team, instead of ACKNOWLEDGING the reasons WHY people don't like it, he says

"IF YOU DON"T LIKE A, YOU MUST BE B"

Dopey.

Marc Guggenheim should be ever company's PR guy. I could just imagine him saying, ."If you want more rights for the working class joe along with higher wages, well you must think the emanchpation proclaimation is a good thing. Where's everone going?"

If you don't like Superboy's mighty timeline punch you must be against the emancipation proclamation??

If you don't like mega-crossovers, then you must support higher fuel costs. After all mega-crossovers equal more characters in a book, and you can buy more books, and more books equal more paper, which burns, like fuel, making things that burn go up in price, which means that fuel, which burns, will go up in price, which means that you supported the higher fuel prices!!

"If you don't like decisions made to your favourite character, you must be against making money."

"If you think aunt may should have stayed dead, you must be for murder"

"If you don't read Black Panther, you are racist."

If I keep reading the inane comments in this thread, I must be an idiot... :woot:

Marvel does like their people to do things the "marvel way".

We've seen the light, because we're for Energy Saving Light Bulbs. Dazzling, isn't it? :oldrazz:

I guess, if you can't beat Joe Q, and his new Pro Archie-Spider Man colleagues, then you join them!?

The undoing of the marriage is not what upset me. What upset me is how Marvel keeps doing things in an unnecessarily complicated way in the name of trying to shock and surprise the readers. To begin with, they should never had let Spidey let his identity be officially known in Civil War; that way they could have skipped the entire, and IMO completely meaningless, plotline of Back in Black and OMD and they would have Spidey as he is now; an unregistrated hero with his secret identity still intact. As for the marriage... I wouldn't have had any problems with Peter and M.J. simply divorce if it is so damn important to have Peter single. Instead they had to complicate things with this OMD-crap, so now you have a situation with a lot of new questions: Why didn't they get married? How come that Harry Osborn is alive? And I have a feeling that when they start answering these questions all you get is more boring plots, more "shocks" and "surprises".

Slott said that "New Ways to Die" concludes with Amazing Spider-Man #573 that has a back-up story with Marvel presidential candidate Stephen Colbert in it. "After that, the train just keeps going," he said. "We've got one of the best single issue Spider-Man stories ever coming out with Marc Guggenheim and Barry Kitson." Slott said they will also be introducing a supporting cast character that fans will "immediately love."

Slott said he will also soon be explaining how Harry Osborn is back, and a John Romita Jr. arc with Marc Guggenheim will answer a lot of the questions people have been asking about Spider-Man. Slott said everything in the Spider-Man Universe will come to a "giant climax" in that story.

"Giant climax", eh?
I have to admit it is kind of fun how they almost hysterically is trying to hype
everything these days... :)

And if you don't like their "giant climax"...they'll label you politically!!

New fun times at Marvel!

OOh noo! JRjr, is gonna be drawing a Guggenheim story?? Ugh, jeez, way to match a great artist with a horrible writer marvel.

I thought Guggenheim's Menace arc and his Kraven arc were pretty good....

I dunno, i really dont like the way he portrays Spiderman, he writes him like a bad version of bugs bunny, always making these silly stupid jokes. Unlike Slott who can write a serious spiderman with witty, funny humor.

This has nothing to do with his recent comment, but I've always thought his arcs were nothing special.

The kraven arc was ok but it was just reduced to punches and kicks with very little character development and plot. Stories that I can explain in less than a paragraph bore me, keep in mind that this lasted for about 3 issues. :sleepy:

Gale and Guggenheim need to get kicked off the brain trust. I would enjoy Brian Michael Bendis more than him...He may make Spidey a noob also but at least he knows how to use good character development.

God i hated the Kraven arc, i was soooo looking forward to it for the sole purpose of seeing DD and Spidey team up with Jiminez's art. It woulda been so cool to see DD and Spidey interact more and share their insight on what's currently going on in the MU (plus both characters have been through ALOT in recent years). But instead of a team up what do we get? We get two very short scenes of DD and spidey interacting and spidey ends up wearing DD's costume which looked absolutely ridiculous on him, with those stupid eye-holes. It took all the seriousness out of the story for me. I just felt very disappointed, all i wanted to see was spidey and DD team up, was that so much to ask?

There will be plenty Spidey/DD team-ups in the near future...

And in the first issue of that arc, there was a flashback to a Spidey/DD team up that had just occured...
