Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in Superman II, has given a thumbs up to the Richard Donner cut of the film, which is being released on DVD on Nov. 28. Following a screening of the film on Thursday night, Kidder told Home Media Retailing Magazine,"I think this is such a better version of Superman II. ... It's night and day." Kidder told a panel discussion at the Directors Guild that after Donner was fired by the film's producers and replaced by Richard Lester, most of the script was rewritten and reshot. She said that she and co-star Christopher Reeve "were really pissed off [over the changes]. He was a little more political about it." On the other hand, she said, she gave a magazine interview in which she remarked that "the producers were beneath contempt." As a result of her comments, she said, "I ended up having 12 lines in Superman III."

I just hope it does live up to everyone's expectations, because I'm so looking forward to it! :super:

She also talked about it in 2003, when everyone knew about it, but thought the stuff was lost. She said something to the effect of (paraphrasing)"I saw his cut, and it was edited and in a vault somewhere in England, and if they find it, that is a completely better film from Lester's version". I remembe us posting that it was confirmed that what donner shot was edited into some form of a but, even though 30 percent had not been shot yet, and it was in a vault somewhere. I think that is the thing that really got the ball rolling on Warner's when Thau came in. It also got the fans writing to Warner Home video again.

^It' so damn surreal that this is finally happening. It's like taking a time machine, but to another dimension where Richard Lester isn't giving his special "touch" to a movie I like.

I just have to keep telling myself it's like a massive extra on the DVD, and not really a proper movie, just in case it looks very choppy and dated.

Does Superman still give up his powers & does Lois & Clark still have sexual relations in this movie?

All I need is the footage because a serious fan edit is my modus operandi. I'm going to make something out of all of it that only showcases my favorite and most relevant/logical scenes, as well as all of the better FX shots in the film.

Well me, don't worry it was great!

What I want know is how much of Donner's material was kept in the Lester version? if Donner shot 70%, how much of that was used? It still boggles the mind that his name doesn't show up anywhere on the original despite having shot all that footage.

Lester had to reshoot a lot of scenes that Donner had already shot in order to get his name and his name only on the credits. To pinpoint scenes that Donner shot for Superman II specifically in the theatrical version, just look for Gene Hackman (not his far off double) and E.G. Marshall.

Margot Kidder has always been my least favorite Lois as far back as I can remember. I never believed she fit the role as what I imagine Lois to be at all.

That said, after seeing the Donner Cut, I had this thought many times "Who the hell is this chick? And why didn't I see her in any Superman 1-4?" Between the new footage of jumping out of the Planet building and the test screens, THATS how I believe Lois to be...NOT "Swell?? There's not too many people in this world who are comfortable using teh word 'swell!' Orange juice...freshly squeezed. Can you read my mind?"

Amazing how all this time I thought the problem was with the actress, when it was really an acting choice/change.
