Margot Kidder always seemed to really be in danger and terrified in her scenes of danger, whereas the other leading ladies in Superhero films seem to scream on cue and have a phoney look of terror in front a blue screen.

her performance in the helicopter rescue scene was great. you really get the sense that she's struggling to hang on.

Totally. And in the earthquake scene, she really seemed scared to death at what was to come.

She was certainly the best actress and the most believable. You actually felt liked she was terrorfied.

You mean every single other leading lady?

I'll give you that much. Margot didn't seem to be as concerned with the way she looked. She played scared...not scared pretty. Or scared pouty lips, "how do they look?" Or scared, "how's my hair?"

She also was willing to do things for the role that I'm sure most actresses would have had a hard time doing. In the earthquake/car scene when she's getting buried alive she was in that car for extended periods of time with all that earth/soil/rubble filling up the car all around her - it really was clastrophobic (spelling?!) and choking to watch but she did a great job of being in peril that way due to her dedication to the role (and Donner as well).

Exactly. The fake screams in todays Superhero movies are embarrassing. Especially the blond in Spiderman 3.

Margot Kidder's screams might have been "realistic," but they also sounded like an 80-year old chain smoker was screaming for Superman.

Even the crowd's terror as they looked up at Lois hanging from the helicopter was more realistic than the crowd's reactions in today's movies. Richard Donner was a great director.

Donner was terrific, and he is one of my favourite directors.

Little known fact, they really did hang her from a helicopter for that scene. They got her drunk so she would sign the consent papers.
