This! That's one of the things that does make sense about this movie and is completely understandable why they overhauled her. The other characters didn't need overhauling so much.

I said at the time of TASM when Sally Field was cast that they would probably go younger for the next incarnation, and I was right. Of course, I didn't think the next incarnation would come around so soon.

Classic 616 Aunt May even looks like MCU Aunt May's grandmother. So she definitely looks too old for a 15-year old Peter.

And I'm very glad they decided to go with a younger version of Aunt May. As already iterated, there's really no reason to have her look like a frail, great-great-grandmother. This is so much better.

This. Or if they were to go with that great-grandmother version, then actually make her that, or Great Aunt May who could've been the mother of Uncle Ben instead.

I think just making her younger is a simpler and more effective deviation.

I don't know if they said in Civil War. I'm not sure what she does in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic.

However, she could plausibly have been a former model in this MCU continuity. I mean, she kind of looks like an older version of Mary Jane.

And btw, Marisa stated on Stephen Colbert that she wanted to play an older version of Aunt May:

Aunts come in all shape and sizes, tbh. I have two sister-in-laws-- one is younger than my wife and one is older... but they don't look like classic aunt May. Of course, those types of aunts are out there... but most try to keep up with the times.

And at least, story-wise it gives her character something to do. And keeps Peter on his toes as to who's dating his aunt and why.

Even the Minimates figure looks more like Mary Jane than Aunt May. You could easily mistake her for MJ:
