I don't know, but I sure hope so.

What we discussed last year seems to come true. Billy Zane could be either the father or the first Phantom.

After several weeks of discussing Lerman as Spider-Man, I continue my suggestion from the time around Fury's opening. Could he actually take the role as 21st Phantom?

Let's keep our fingers crossed! I wouldn't mind it if it's a sequel to the 96 movie, where the 22nd Phantom is one of the main characters, and Billy Zane is the father. He could die at the end of the movie or something.

I guess that will be the case. The 21st is about to retire but his son refuses to replace him because of different reasons. Maybe he wants to be carefree and hates responsibilities?

does any one remember the the phantom TV movie back in the 2000's on syfy? it was horrible the phantom was the son of the original phantom he had new costume I didn't like it. if it did good they were going to make an TV series out of it. but it didn't do that well .it barley had any action in it. I didn't like it at all. I do enjoy the 1990 movie I heard about phantom movie for a while now I hope it comes out soon!!!

The acting across the board is flat-out horrible, with Billy Zane playing one of the blandest superheroes ever and Treat Williams hamming it up beyond belief. The story was crap. The special effects were garbage. The costume was ridiculous. What's to like?

Anyway, the Phantom as a character barely has a following anymore... I don't know why anyone would bother to try and adapt him to film again. Let him stay in the past and adapt properties that actually have some potential.

It's flawed (mostly because of the supernatural elements that were shoe-horned in) and isn't on the same level as, say, "The Rocketeer" or "Dick Tracy", but one of the worst movies ever made is a big stretch.

The acting across the board is flat-out horrible, with Billy Zane playing one of the blandest superheroes ever and Treat Williams hamming it up beyond belief. The story was crap. The special effects were garbage. The costume was ridiculous. What's to like?

I thought Billy Zane did a great job with what he was given to work with. Treat Williams' performance was...unconventional, but I thought it was enjoyable in its own weird way.

I would have preferred that they give the Phantom a grey costume (originally his costume in the comics was grey, but a printing error turned it purple), but they did a good job of making a live-action version of the purple costume.

Anyway, the Phantom as a character barely has a following anymore... I don't know why anyone would bother to try and adapt him to film again. Let him stay in the past and adapt properties that actually have some potential.

By that logic, "Ant-Man" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" shouldn't have been made.

I, for one, enjoy the Billy Zane movie in spite of it's flaws. It is a bit underwhelming, yes but I don't think it's a bad as you make it out to be Rowsdower.

Phantom has a difficult story that doesn't always translate well on screen and the Zane movie could have fallen foul of that problem. Just enough elements of the original Phantom concept must be taken and updated to the current times to make it a unique superhero- a fun superhero. And as difficult as it may be, it can be done.

Also, I don't think you are being fair to the Phantom when you say it doesn't have a following anymore coz I think it does. And all of them are in hibernation at the moment waiting for a beacon of some sort- for example, a new movie- to come out of the shadows. And even if we take the argument that it's following just isn't there any more that argument could be used for a number of more recent films which were successful.

And, the endeavour to make a new film even now probably stems from the underwhelming nature of the last film with many believing that that can be bettered and a more remarkable adaptation could indeed be put forward. In a way, it's the exact opposite of people not wanting a remake of, say, Back to the Future since there are perfect films that we could go back and watch. Phantom doesn't really have that going for itself.

The acting, Zane playing a joyful fun superhero, Treat Williams hamming it up as the bad guy, the story, the special effects, and the cool suit.

All properties have some potential. The fans of the character would like to see more of him. The people who don't know him could find him new and enjoyable.

I can name a few movies that are much, much, MUCH, worse.
Care to watch Kazuya's Revenge? And I, Frankenstein, Highlander 2, Tekken Blood Vengeance, to name a few.
They are far worse than most of the movies you listed in the 'worst movies' thread.

Both of them are incredibly funny.

As crappy as almost all of comic book stories, did not stop them from being fun.

Special effects are fine, when they are not the few moments of underpolished underbudgeted outdated cgi.
And the costume is comic accurate, and that's part of the movie's charm.

All properties have some potential. The fans of the character would like to see more of him. The people who don't know him could find him new and enjoyable.

Fun, and old fashioned, with a truly heroic main character. A "modern" day knight in purple tights. I can watch this movie five times in a row and never get bored by it. Seriously...it's a feel-good movie I can't say the same thing about The Dark Knight Trilogy (even though I like those movies too). I wish they could make more movies like this today.

Is this still happening?
