Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

*cough* Equilibrium *cough*.

Actually, I would Ring of Fire. Equilibrium is not that bad & is somewhat underrated. ;)

Eh, Ofcourse I could be wrong but I doubt it. These aren't exactly great comparsions because these two actors had careers before the "cape" as it were, but I'm quite sure that Tobey Maguire and Christain Bale both got tons more offers after they donned the spandex than Routh did. Again not a perfect match but I'll use it anyway.

Gotcha. But I think Routh will do fine on his career anyway. As long he pick some good scripts carefully, he will still make movies.

And yeah, Millar is somewhat quite a tool. Though I do enjoy his work on Civil War & The Authority from Wildstorm.

Outside of the plane scene I don't recall one even semi exciting save scene...so I'd argue we didn't even have that to fall back on.

And too me it was 2 and a half hours of torture.

Sorry to hear. But it is hard for me to understand it, though, especially coming from a girl. To me watching SR was/is a pleasure, a delight and one of my best experiences in cinema ever.

Back in 2005 I really wanted a reboot ala BB, but could understand why Singer would not want to do an origin film...Based on this I did not expect to love the movie, but I did... :O The most healthy decision would have been to restart the whole thing, back then, I guess. Now, I just want Singer to finish his arc with MOS, and then the eventual reboot after WB makes a couple more DC movies like GL.

Great. I'd love to read your complete review on SR, I Am The Knight. I'd like to know what made you change your mind and love the movie despite not being what you initially wanted. :yay: Maybe you can post it in the SR forum on the Best Scene or on the 2 year Aniversary of SR thread. Or just send it to me in a PM, please.

What movie did you watch again? Are you joking? Please tell me you are joking?

I'd appreciate it if you didn't speak for everyone.

So you three want him to say the same thing you all feel on hating SR? Wow, I didn't know some of us are not allow to say we like SR or say it the best film without other saying "Please don't speak for everyone" or "You're joking, right?" to our face. So much for our freedom to speak out here without others telling us this kind of talk.

Beside, he didn't said it was a fact, did he? If he like it & say it like an Oscar film, leave him alone then. It just his opinion as you three feel on the movie.

I don't understand hating SR haters or lovers. The only SR lover that I dislike is The Guard and thats because he talks down to everyone...anywho I'm not going to get into that.

Thanks for not putting me on your list. I can sleep better now with you being so postivite to me. :D :D

Remember Superman Prime, it's only a movie, it's only a movie.

Heh! Nice reference to the 70s horror film "Last House on the Left" with that "it's only a movie, it's only a movie" quote.

First of all, we all know we probably aren't going to get 100% Mark Millar Superman in the movie, just like we didn't get 100% Mark Millar Wanted. WB and DC are probably gonna make sure of certain things. If Millar and this mystery director turn in a great pitch, great, if not, it'll go to someone else. People need to chill.

I don't see what's actually wrong in having the villiain beating the hero before the hero triumphs. That's what always happen. We had Superman being beaten in SII for example.

Now, Richard didn't steal a thing here. Superman felt that his commitment top his original race was more important so he left Lois alone. It's the consequence of his decision. Richard didn't come in to steal her.

Yes your right Richard wasnt stealing anything the only one who was attempting such an act was Superman himself.

I would Reign of Fire. Equilibrium is not that bad & is somewhat underrated. ;)

I actually enjoyed Reign of Fire more than I did Equilibrium, but, to each their own. A debate about Christian Bale's movies would take the thread off topic.

I didn't know there was an SR 2 year anniversay thread. Guess my attention has been on the MOS boards way too much. I'll check it out.

As for my review, I never did write one, even though I remember thinking about writing one around the time the DVD came out. I'll write and post one on the SR boards later on, as I need to collect my thoughts on the movie. :yay:

I doubt W.B. would use millar's pitch anyway, because (to me) he seems to think of Superman as being more Godlike than what Singer did, and THAT is what turned quite a few folks off on S.R.

Sure, I get that Superman is GodLike, I just don't want it in my face every five minutes.
Just give us a great story, lots of action, and a good supervillain.
And Please, don't try to over complicate things. This ain't rocket science after all.

Nope, because the Superman I know wouldn't have abandoned Earth for five years.:oldrazz:

Why not? He did that several times in comics.

Problem is that final cut of the filme didnt make clear reasons of his decisions.

I dot agree here. Superman is nothing Godlike in SR. I dont see where this statments come from. I think ppl assume this more from Singer interviews than from movie itself.

Exactly. After he knew that Lois wasn't absolutely happy with him. As Jimmy said, she never married the guy and it was obvious she still had a thing for Superman going on.

Agree. The emphasis on his reasons should have been emphasized much more.

He can leave for five years, but besides the fact that the movie doesn't explain exactly why he believed that there were survivors on Krypton, he didn't tell his girlfriend that he was going. That is something I don't think Superman would do.

If my man upped and left without saying a word and came back after five years I'd kick em in the nuts and tell him to stay the hell away from me, or in Superman case, I'd kick him in the nuts with kryptonite shoes.

Yes, Superman has gone away on extended missions in the comics, but Singer didn't really send him on a mission. In the novelization, there were transmissions coming from Krypton. That was a far more plausible reason for going away. However, I think it's pretty clear that Singer wanted to emphasis the loner, outcast theme that was his Singerman. So, he nixed the transmissions and just had Superman disappear. That is decidedly un-Superman.

Millar must have a lot more clout now in Hollywood and may stand a better chance with Warners after Wanted's amazing opening weekend at the box office.

51 million!:wow:

Whoa! And he keeps running his mouth about doing Superman like he has no shame. Agreed that if WB were thinking of reboot then will definitely look at Millar...just because a 51 million opener ain't nuthin to sneeze at.

Thanks Retro!

Wanted the film has nothing in common with Millars Wanted the comic, their are tiny similarities but for the most part its a completly diffrent story. Besides Wanted is a medicore film at best, not to mention Millar had nothing at all to do with the film.

As I said, problem is final cut didnt make it clear. I insist that biggest problem with SR was final cut. They took a lot of important stuffs to the story and that would make it more reliable and belivable.

We agree! I think that final cut was horrible.

Hmmm ...

What does that remind me of ...

Some old TV series I used to watch ...

Something about ... what was it?

Oh yeah ... a big green guy in a fright wig.

I don't know about that he wouldn't do that. I imagine there might be stories in the comic book that show he does that. With 71 yrs. of history, that would be hard to find the issues around somewhere if it exist. But that just me. ;)

Now that is cruel. :wow: :wow:
