Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

this thread makes me realize how little people really know about Superman

I'm sick of reboots. Give Singer a chance to do a great action movie. He's learned.

I agree! Do we really need to see the origin story AGAIN? NO MORE THE ORIGIN STORY!

Gah! Millar is really annoying and needs to stop talking about making Superman film. I'd like to see him to STAY AWAY FROM SUPERMAN FILM.

^It can be a reboot without an orgin story for all I care...as long as I don't get another...whatever we got.

Yet you said he wasn't, and inferred that all Superman should be doing is breaking other aliens in half. That's not the whole of the character, and to only want that in a character is rather empty.

Your point is? How does having an emotional need make him not a tough guy? I have a love life but I don't show that side of me to everyone. I have a tough exterior when I'm not with my girlfriend. Why can't Superman?

Nice on the mermaid, but there's no reason for Superman not to have Lois as his love interest. She's the other half he needs. And even Superman needs love. I couldn't tell you how empty the comics would be for me now if he and Lois weren't in a relationship/married. Superman is always accused of being "too powerful" and "not relatable." But with Lois he is allowed to have emotional...weaknesses I guess you could call them as well as relatability.

We don't have to repeat the same thing all over. Millar's take would provide fresh air. I don't want to end up with a remake of the Donner movie. Not every Superman movie has to have "Lois" as a big part of it. Or even a love story.

If we got a reboot, i'd want the origin told in the opening credits in comic panels.
As for Superman himself, i'd want an older, established one in his 30's.

Every movie has to have some type of "emotional story arc" to compliment the "action story arc". Doesn't necessarily have to be a love story per say.

I agree it doesnt have to be an origin story but I personally would prefer one as it will be sort of a fresh start away from the Reeves film and it would be less confusing.

Reboot or not reboot, they have to announce it NOW.

They are probably looking for a new director and new cast as well as deciding what is the right script for a reboot. Dont worry a real Superman film is on it's way.:yay:

I can't wait for it.

Me neither.

If they do a reboot, I sort of want them to do an origin story, for a few reasons. Superman has a great origin story, and while a lot of people get the basic, they don't know a lot about it. If we could get an updated story of Krypton (a la Birthright), that would be great. The problem I see is this: How do you have an origin story without Lex Luthor as the enemy? And I really don't want to see another focus on Lex Luthor (even if the movies finally do him the right way). If it was an origin story and they brought in some power house bad guy, he wouldn't get near the screen time he likely deserves.
I'd like to see that bad villain first. Some Darkseid or Brainiac (or both...) that would pose a huge threat. Let Singer finish up his storyline, and hope he can pull an X2 (i think he can). Then let's a have a reboot in 6 years or so.

If Bryan Singer wants to finish his flawed vision of Superman, I have the perfect solution: fanfiction.net. :o

Bryan Singer's vision of Superman IMO is not worth paying $180 million to bring to life. "6 years after Singer finishes his vision" is quite frankly too long to wait for a full reboot, because we need one now.

It seems that only us are interested in a new Superman movie. According to the last rumors, WB, Legendary Pictures and even Singer are always ready to postpone it for something else.

Guys, whether Bryan Singer is the next director for a possible sequel or not, this producing gig by Bad Hat Harry wouldn't stand in his way.

Exactly. In fact I'd prefer a reboot that wasn't an origin story. Look at The Incredible Hulk, it was a reboot but it didn't spend more than 10 minutes total telling the origin story. Everyone knows the basic back story of Superman. Why retread that? Simply touch upon it through some expository dialogue and move on with an ACTION MOVIE.

Actually if there is indeed a reboot, that is exactly what I would want. I don't want to see the origin again. Problem is, depending on what the story is with this case, which I won't claim to know a lot about...they might have to create an origin to get around certain things. My opinion is there will be an agreement between all parties involved eventually to make some money.

Get around the lawsuit with the Siegel and Shuster estates? The contract with Bryan Singer?

Agreed. IMO there is big money to be made with a sequel

To get around the lawsuit situation, just a theory.

If they put Millar on this movie I will personally fly out to Burbank, go to the WB water tower and flood that entire goddamn studio.

Something where they re-jig the origin enough that they don't have to pay out so much to S&S? It could work but it runs the risk of giving the public a Superman they don't recognize.
