Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

Lets hope WB's/DC and Singer consider him or Waid as story consultants.

We'll see what happens....

I could definitely see Johns working on a sequel. He loved Superman Returns. Not to mention he's also Richard Donner's protege.

i like all the sh** talk on Millar's part. I don't believe him at all, but if they do restart they need to keep welling out of the project. he's fine for smallville, but he's not "superman." routh was decent and i think he could carry the movie if they made it like iron man. fun, bright, somewhat uplifting.

Yeah but when it comes MOS....they need to move away from the Donnerverse and just make a sequel that is fresh.

Fun, bright, uplifting, and with a great emotional story with some epic, fight and action scenes.

Hey Show or anyone else,

Do you think that if MOS gets done that Singer and the producers will be changing the visual look of Metropolis as well?

I think that the visual look and architecture of Metropolis can be improved upon. Make it look more like a sleek, modern metallic bright city that has some futuristic elements to it ya know?

Geoff Johns was recently asked on his forum if he would like to be involved with the next film. This was his response:

I got a chance to meet Geoff Johns briefly about two weeks ago at Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood...Nicest guy ever. And no one in my opinion has a better handle of what makes the DCU tick than he does. I did mention to him I'd kill to have him involved in either a Green Lantern or Superman movie, to which he pretty much said he would totally love to be involved. He told a funny story of pitching a GL movie to the Warners people around 2000 or so, and they were like "oh, but does he need a ring? No one will buy a magic ring" One year later, The Lord of the Rings comes out...go figure. But I could tell the man would bring so much to the table for either of these franchises.

I don't think they'll change it. No.

I can dig it ... if it happens, thank Nolan for not only two great Batman movies, but for giving the studio the willingness to re-start another major franchise.

Jumping into the conversation late, but Mark Millar talked about a famous American action director that has pull at the WB.

Anyone think it could be Donner?

I hope not.

No offense but Donner already has his new Superman, it was Singer's Superman Returns. I don't think he could bring anything new to the table.

Donner? But he LOVED SR, and said that Routh was great as Superman. His exact words: "By God, only Singer should do Superman movies"

I like him and the way he views and writes Superman. :yay: I read it on an interview. I'll try to find the link.

I don't believe that will happen. I think they will leave it looking like a modern day New York.

I don't think they'll change it. No.

I hope not. I loved the timeless feel of the film. They just need to brighten everything up a little bit, like the red on the suit and have more day time scenes, imo. Oh, and have a happier and more confident Superman, which by the end of SR it was pointing towards that direction. He finally found his place in the world and realized that Earth is his real home. Jason was a very important reason for it. Beautiful. :word:

The design for Metropolis was very nice IMO. I especially loved the DP Guy Dyas designed

WB, please just green light this puppy already!

Well, of course he's going to love Singer's work because Singer continued the story he built. But just because he loves Singer doesn't mean he doesn't love himself more.:woot:

I was just throwing a name out there. Millar said famous American action director with a lot of pull at WB. People have been throwing out names out there like Bay and Snyder. I don't know if Bay has made any movie with WB. And Snyder isn't famous yet outside of our geekdom and can't imagine he's really earned that much clout with WB. Yeah, everybody thought 300 was "TOTALLY AWESOME!!" but how many can tell you who directed it if you took a poll at your office or school?

In fact he's got a huge potential bomb on his hands with Watchmen. Don't get me wrong the movie could be a perfect adaption that we'll all love, but I can really see a lot of non-fans going in to see a Superhero movie and being like "what the **** is this?" Went off on a tangent there, sorry.

So that's why I'm throwing Donner's name out there. Has made a lot of movies at WB and a famous American action director. I know I'm not right, I'm just throwing it out there.

And I guess you could also speculate the Wachowskis too.

But look at WB's history as a production company and tell me what action films really stand out other than the Lethal Weapon and Matrix series?

Well, there is also Dirty Harry, but I'm highly doubting it's Clint Eastwood.

millar is just about the thing that could save the series and push it in the right direction for TODAYS audience

the same way he pretty much saved marvel in for the past 7 or so years...marvel holds on to him tight...he creeped away for a few days and gave us one of the best superman stories ever, his one jla book was better than all the amazo work being done now

stepping outside of the personal investment ppl have civil war...it was the most fun and engaging crossover in a long time..

the man has ideas...
he was the driving force behind the mega success that was ultimates...and ultimate xmen before that...the books have the most steam when he's on them..and when he leaves ppl lie to themselves that they don't miss him...but lets be real, even with madueria loeb can't hope to save that book

let the man save superman, he's the only one who can

Really? What did he exactly say? Is there a link?

I have just gotten home from what was one of the best experiences of my life.

After spending the afternoon with my mentor and former boss, Richard Donner, I had the pleasure of attending the Superman Returns premiere in Westwood tonight, followed by an amazing party afterwards. Hung out with Donner, Dan Didio, Mark Waid, Michael Dougherty and many more on what was one of the greatest nights of my life.

The movie rocks. It's a classic. Bryan and the gang did it so right. They made Donner proud.

And that's not easy to do.

Enjoy it next week,

Geoff

Me too. Sometimes it felt like the 40's, sometimes it felt like present day. I absolutely dig that.

Agreed. I kinda hope they keep it as it is.

Miller's not the right guy for the job. Give Singer another shot WB!
