so can anyone actually bring up WTF Mark Millar's ideas are for a Superman film??

people keep talking about how he has terrible story ideas in his planned Superman film... I've tried searching the net and can't find crap... unless people here are talking out of their rear!! :)

It is all in this thread somewhere.

Devin at Chud thinks that Millar is self promoting yet again, whether he is or not remains to be seen. The guy obviously wants to do Superman.

You haven't been keeping up on the comings and goings of Mark Millar and Superman previously then. I think it was something like he claimed Eminem was being cast as Jimmy Olsen and I believe he guaranteed the Jim Caviezal was cast as Superman in Returns and it would be announced soon.

In regards to the casting call, I called her myself, SHE claimed it was real. I don't remember anybody hear saying it was real, only saying the woman that was called said it was.

I remember the news about him betting money on Caviezel. I didn't realize he made it up though. I thought at the time Caviezel was really close to getting the role. As for Eminem, that would be absurd. If Millar said that, he may have been hitting the bottle too much. My apologies to Filmnerdjamie. I really thought she was the one to confirm the casting call as people were waiting for her to confirm it and someone did. I forgot it was you. I just remember Filmnerdjamie being so convinced that SR was getting a sequel so I mixed that up.

We both called her, but neither of us said, "it was legit", we said that Mrs. Matthews said it was. It was obviously too early in the game and something OMEL cooked up just to spread the word around, I imagine they do that with a great number of films.

In regards to Millar, it is probably in this thread, somebody dug it up.

FYI FilmnerdJamie is a guy? I think you're getting him mixed up with MostPowerful for some reason, she really wanted Superman Returns to happen.

Heh, it's not impossible for a Superman Returns fan and non fan to agree. I Am The Knight, Jamon, Nintendo nerd and Showtime have agreed with myself on rare occassions. To be fair Showtime and myself agree on quite a bit so he doesn't really belong in the line up.

I see your Birthday is a day before mine...don't know why i brought it up, it's just interesting to me for some reason is all.

September is the best month. My birthday is on the 11 :yay:.

At least, I think we can all agree that we all want the best for supes.

to all you mark millar supporters.
on page one you have a nice post from showtime

this is how crazy this guys mind is.
well he does have a point about Cage being an interesting Superman-- but that doesnt necessarily mean its good interesting :cwink:

in any case in that interview Miller sounds like he's pulling people's chains than meaning anything seriously. this is Miller after all, the guy with the bizarre sense of humor.

"Millar: This is also one of the reasons Superman shouldn't be married to Lois. It's just stupid. It makes no sense and destroys the whole dynamic. Superman is God, Jor-El is the Holy Spirit and Clark Kent is Jesus. The Kents are Mary and Joseph and Lois is Mary Magdelene. She's the NYC girl who's ****ed her way around the city and found nobody who measures up. She's just had it with men and is focusing on her career... then Superman shows up.
(...)
Interviewer: He must Love Lois? No?
Millar: Drop your child among monkeys when he's weeks old and see what happens. He'll get monkey characteristics, but he won't want to shag one of them. Even though he's never met another person he'll feel different... and monkeys are closer to us than we are to Superman. Think about THAT, baby.
Did tarzan want to **** Cheetah? No, he waited for Jane. He knew he wasn't a monkey; he just liked hanging out with them."

And some people want this guy anywhere near a Superman film??? WTF??!

...Superman Returns did happen. Thankfully.

He asked about the ideas of Millar for the FILM. This isnt about the film. This is some general ideas he was discussing with fans.

Nothing to do with the trilogy he wants to proposal.

No, but it's a fair indication of his views on the dynamic of Superman and Lois.

It's fair to assume he'd take those views into the movie.

Dammit, just a few hours out of the board and I'm lost (track of the conversation)

His vision is interesting. I don't know if Millar will write it, IMO it depends by how important is his friend. If he is a triple-a director, I think that at WB they will be interested.

I don't like his vision of a Superman with a superiority complex, or ****e Lois. But, those visions MIGHT have changed by now. Who knows. He seems to be actively involved with fans and interacts with them on a fairly regular basis (I.E. he likes the sound of his own voice) So, I'm sure he's aware of the fact that his ideas are not popular.

What exactly is Millar's vision? I can't seem to find anything concrete mentioned. Is it BS?

The superiority complex might be interpreting it a bit too far, but the "****e Lois" concept is completely not in Millar's vision at all. It's grossly misinterpreted and I'm sick of reading it. :cmad:

I know. I just jumped on the bandwagon on that one :hehe:

Soooo.. are we gonna get a new Superman or what..?! :lmao:

Tell me about it, him considering himself above humanity just shows that Millar doesnt have a clue about how Superman should be characterised.

Millar wants to make Ultimate Superman, that's all this is. He can't write characters that are just noble and decent with a little complexity....every single character he's written, protagonist or not, is an a-hole. They do ****ty things. That's how he writes.

He is terrible for Superman then. End of Story.

Maybe after 70 years we need an Ultimate Superman.

Where do you get this indication that his Supes is an a-hole?

How did you come to the conclusion that in Millar's mind, Superman would see himself above humanity?

Millar doesn't get Superman? you guys don't know what you're talking about if you honestly believe that. Look I'm far from his biggest fan matter of fact the guy is one of the reasons I swore off Marvel comics forever. However one thing he does get is Superman. Forget Red Son for a minute you guys need to read his work on the STAS comic series Superman Adventures.

Peep that and you will see those are some of the greatest Superman stories ever told and completely true to the character and his world. The story where Clark and Superman are two seperate beings is one of my all time favorite Superman stories. I wouldn't have an issue if he was tapped to write a new Superman story cause a lot of people in Hollywood just don't get the character and Millar has proven that he does.
