Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

I also think it's Bay because Millar refered to the director as a high octane director. There are lots of directors that do action films but Bay fits this description perfectly. And I seriously think people hate Bay because it's the 'cool' thing to do. People on the internet sometimes lack independant thinking and start regurgitating what other people have said. Same goes for Mark Millar. People start criticizing his work cause others have even though they may not have read one comic of his.

If I had the choice of a Superman film being slow paced oscar contender that does okay at the BO or a high paced action film that grosses a billion dollars and gets sequels I'd go with choice B. Though of course a film that grosses over a billion dollars and wins oscars would be nice too. But then people on the internet would still complain. Think Titanic.

I'm sure Bay can pull of a Superman movie. I mean, i don't understand the hatred for Pearl Harbour. I thought it was good. And I like Armaggedon and Transformers. I mean, c'mon! It's a brand of toys? How would've imagined he would take that concept and turn into a great action movie? People were expecting oscar caliber movie from Transformers? C'mon. It was just supposed to be fun.

I think Superman needs to drop the Drama Crap and become fun again. With a script by Millar, who's clearly passionate about doing this, things might turn out good.

Honestly, what Bay needs is good writers. That's all you have to do, because you can't let Bay off the leash on his own, he needs someone to say, "no, no...you can't take a dump on that person's yard, just let some loose over there, and then you can do it over here." Bad Boys 2 is an example of Bay just being let off the chain, running around and ****ing every female dog in sight. It was fun, but storywise it wasn't happening.

Superman, like I said before, is just dying for someone with the pull and the budget to have him literally punching holes in national monuments, plowing through the Earth's core, fighting giant robotic monstrosities and using whatever is available in the vicinity as a weapon...Bay would bring us that in spades. Now when it came to the quieter moments, you get someone that's a dialogue wizard as a screenwriter to counter that.

^Exactely.

Singer is a great director and he had good writers with him. And I hate Superman Returns.

I think Bay is a better fit than Singer as a Superman director. Superman needs a fan to write the script and someone with eye candy visuals and taste for good action to direct.

I want this character to be fun again.

not only a writter. but a god producer.
speilberg is a big reason TF had a good popcorn story IMO.

why a fan? always when we look for writters we look for fans.

a writters job is to writte a story. a good story. hes job is to research comics and make the best adaptation.

So with all the Millar talk, do any of you think that there could potentially be some Superman storyboards out there? I know that some of you are in or know someone that is in the industry in one shape or another. How does a pitch go? Do you just go up in front of a bunch of suits sitting at a round table and you just pitch the story that you have come up with along with some storyboards? Please edumicate me. :woot:

there's nothing wrong with that... the revised script (not his first draft) that he did in the early '00's was good, from what reviews had said

yeah the problem is that people always mention the first draft or drafts.

When I first got into the internet I used to read a lot of these drafts.. Now I lost the habit. Maybe I should go back to it..

nailed it right on the head dude

Well, if good writing were more of a common thing, we wouldn't mind bad directors, like Ratner, McG, et cetera

I just recently read Red Son for the first time, and I have to say it was excellent!

That put of the way, I'm not sure how I feel about Mark Miller's ideas for Superman. Some are interesting, yes, but over all...I'm not sure. As for Bay as his mysterious director...eh. Superman is in desperate need of some major kick ass action sequences (bursting through buildings, streets crumbling, massive explosions, etc) but some of Bay's work has been lackluster at best. I like some of his films (Transformers, Armageddon, The Island, Pearl Harbor) but I'm not sure if he could handle a Superman film. I'm sure he could deliver on the action, but not so much on the drama.

^We already got Bale playing Bats.....no overseas actors for Supes. Principle of the thing. :cmad:

^come on, the US can always provide the damsel in distress :woot:

His ideas are ******ed. I almost vomited after reading that.

- Don't laugh, but I thought Nic Cage was an interesting idea.

-Cage actually IS Superman and the fact that he's an Oscar-winning actor would, I think, bring some much-needed dignity after the TV show

cage got an oscar for playing a drunk guy. after that he was in a lot of brainless summer movies.

-The last rumour I heard from a friend in Hollywood was that he was being seriously considered.

of course marky.....of course you have friends :o
