This also seems like the perfect time to announce our Marvel Divas limited series, beginning in July, from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Tonci Zonjic, featuring some of the Marvel Universe’s greatest female heroes in a way you haven’t seem them before.
I’ll let Roberto explain:

“The idea behind the series was to have some sudsy fun and lift the curtain a bit and take a peep at some of our most fabulous super heroines. In the series, they're an unlikely foursome of friends--Black Cat, Hell Cat, Firestar, and Photon--with TWO things in common: They're all leading double-lives and they're all having romantic trouble. The pitch started as "Sex and the City" in the Marvel Universe, and there's definitely that "naughty" element to it, but I also think the series is doing to a deeper place, asking question about what it means...truly means...to be a woman in an industry dominated by testosterone and guns. (And I mean both the super hero industry and the comic book industry.) But mostly it's just a lot of hot fun

this will be fun. just don't like the Diva part of the name.

In what possible way are those characters "the Marvel Universe's greatest female heroes"?

Other than that, this sounds like a fun concept. Not one I'd be interested in, but I'm surprised it hasn't been done before.

i have no idea who Photon is but i think this could be a fun title. and if Campbell were to draw it probably be something id check out.

Campbell's art never worked for me. He'd be a hindrance rather than a draw.

i like his toon influence. it reminds me of Ramos, only tamed.

Same thing I was gonna say.

This looks interesting, I guess they used third tier female heroes because they figured we've seen the personal lives of the main females too much, already? Which is kinda bullcrap, considering the only ones who appear regularly in titles are Sue, Storm, Emma, and the female members of the Avengers.

And She-Hulk. I'm surprised she's not in this, actually. She's perfect for a Sex and the City story and she's got a bit more star power than anyone in that pic.

Yeah, lots of people seem perplexed that She-Hulk wasnt included....

Who knows? If this does well, maybe it will be an ongoing, and Jen will eventually show up.

I'm just glad to see Firestar again. She hasn't appeared since Civil War, to MY knowledge.

She appeared in Nova's comic, but she didn't do any power stuff. She, Vance, and Rich hung out to talk about the Worldmind's illicit activities, reminisce, and help Rich figure out how to proceed.

Firestar has me curious, but it's a mini, which means it's $4, so I won't be picking it up.

Maybe if it was MAX, and She Hulk was in there, and Dodson or Benes or Campbell did interiors, I'd buy it.

As it is, I'll pass.

It's the Captain Marvel from the 80s

I don't see how Firestar is anything close to a Diva..she's a pretty down home cool chick from her past.

Hellcat too, although she seems to have a "freaky" side..both are kinda anti divas.

Marvel seems to be using DIVA as synonomus with women..which I've never defined it as such.

Marvel seems to be using "diva" like it's not the most ******ed word ever conceived of.

Having a Marvel Diva's without a Jennifer Walters just seems off.

I mean, seriously, this is the best they can do? A few B and D List heroines no one cares about and haven't sold a comic in years (HELLCAT barely outsold Archie by the last issue of her last mini) and shamelessly rip off SEX AND THE CITY, a show that has been OFF THE AIR for years?

Now, see, this is entirely the kind of project, like MARVEL APES or MARVEL PETS, that makes it hard to justify those $3.99 prices. Marvel has too many comics coming out per month, something like over 100 or so, and you KNOW damn well there are many of them that any realistic watcher of the market would go, "oh, this won't sell at all". MARVEL DIVAS is one of them. It won't sell more than 27k at debut, and will sink like a stone thereafter. Is there really a point to releasing mini's that no rational, logical and realistic person believes will sell well, or even hold steady for 5-6 issues? Every few years Marvel releases a comic series that seeks to sell on the strength of T&A alone, usually a SHANNA THE SHE-DEVIL mini, and they ALWAYS, always, ALWAYS sell poorly, because the audience for that sort of thing isn't there (or is already buying JUNGLE GIRL and RED SONJA).

Look at that art, and see why Marvel has a hard time selling heroines. All that matters in that pic is their bodies. The last major female character that sold at Marvel was Bendis' Jessica Jones, who, before she got annoying, sold on the strength of being an interesting (if fallible) character, not because she shoved her **** and hips at the reader on a cover. Aside for crossovers or a swimsuit, what did MS. MARVEL stand for? That was somehow distinct to herself?

I just...I don't see the point of releasing material that no one can believe will sell decently in the wake of a recession and amidst anger over high prices. I really wish I understood what sort of drugs that company insiders in Marvel and other industries take that allows them to completely ignore reality, even their OWN reality. At least everyone on Wall Street usually was known for doing cocaine. :o

I thought Alias sold because of the Anal sex?

I think the idea of a all female team is dumb.

Isnt the whole concept of "Divas" also out dated??

Marvel is seriously outdated with ALL their concepts.

It sold because:

- Bendis
- From what I hear, it was good
- Launched the MAX line, so it was "trendy"

To be fair, not as outdated as some of Dan DiDio/Geoff Johns' ******* for Silver Age stuff. Least IMO. Those two seem to think trading fans in the mid-late 20's for ones in their 40's who hate change is a good idea, and I don't think it is. There's always worse.

Nah i'm pretty sure it was the anal sex.

I don't buy the 'diva' part of that title.

I kind of like the silver age stuff..to an extent. Marvel is the polar opposite, botching the Invaders/Avengers series, making The Twelve a delayed afterthought, and retconning things into existence as opposed to DC retconning things out of existance, not a big DC reader so I'll take your word for it. At least we have Bucky back.

Although DC surely took things too far with all the whole tweaking legacy characters to stir the pot. The list is long, Firestorm, Blue Beetle, The Question, Batwomen...just too much and too superficial.

Marvel's big crime is the current direction with Osborn , which would have resounded 3 years ago, but now comes off as too much...and outdated.

Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum...horrible travesty in direction, would have been cool and lauded in 1998..just outdated. I thought I was reading old issues of Brigade.
