Anyone here have any of them?

Picked up Man-Thing Vol 1. today at Books-a-million. Comes with a bunch of his comics reprinted in it, all in black and white.

They had, I think, Fantastic Four, Hulk, X-men, and Spidy there, too.

I have all of the Spider-Man a few Hulk, a few FF.

Good stuff...though Lately I just download the color versions offline.

They have dozens of them, they've been doing them for 10 years now.

I'm not a fan of the black and white if the books were originally color.

I only have Howard the Duck

I've got the X-Men Essentials, and they're pretty great. Cheapest, easiest way to read the Claremont/Byrne run ever.

I've got the first two Avengers ones and the Marvel Team up one....I also dislike the black and white...and honestly I think I just don't like the stories from the 60s....

I've been meaning to get the Godzilla one though

I've only got Essential Savage She-Hulk and Essential Avengers vol. 1. The She-Hulk one was surprising well done. I only got into the character because of what Dan Slott was doing, but even the old Savage stuff was really good. Best sixteen bucks I've spent. But those old Avengers ones aren't working for me. Sorry, but Silver Age stuff is boring to me.

They're a cheap and handy way to learn about Marvel's early days....

Im beginning to replace mine with those Omnibus volumes though. A bit more pricey, but Kirby, Ditko, Heck and the rest's artwork really needs to be seen in color, imo...

Hmmm, I don't care for black and white, too. However, I take my M...I buy almost anything Man-Thing related. If I can afford, too.

Anyone know why these are in black and white btw?

I've bought every issue, and also every DC version, which is called DC Showcase. The Marvel's are much better, simply because you can only read so many issues from DC's early years, as most of their books are from the late 50's and early 60's. These are simply the most affordable way to read back issues (and, not have to read them while sitting at a computer).

Simple, because the same color printing process that was used in the days the books were first published in is no longer used today. In order to reprint them in color, the coloring has to be completely redone all over again. When the Marvel Masterworks first came out, they were in color, but only collected 10 or so issues at a time and retailed for $50 (back in 1990). That, versus 30+ issues without color on cheaper paper for only $16 in the Essential versions

I've read some of these, but I honestly can't stand old comics... actually, I don't really truly like many of the comics I read, but most of the stuff reprinted in the Essentials, having read bits and pieces, I decided it was best if I put them down and back away slowly...

If you want to read a bunch of comics, search Amazon for the DVDs with the reprints. They work pretty well, not perfectly, and that doesn't even factor your tolerance for PDF comics, but it is probably the better way to go.

I've only got the first Essential X-Men.

The quality of the book isn't very good, but it's a great way to read a lot of comics for a low price.
