Marvel fan reads Kingdom Come and Dark Knight Returns....

Thats like blaming the Batman show from the 60's for Batman's non-lameness.

God doesnt love you.

But Jesus does, and me and the Holy ghost go waaaayyy back. Two out of three aint bad. Plus, I still got the negatives from Moses' Bachlor Party, so he wouldn't dare make a move on me.

Actually, it's more like blaming the Batman show from the 60's for Batman's lameness in the 60's.

What about not blaming the Batman show from the 60's for Batman's non-lameness? Is it like that?

But Batman was able to come out on top, Aquaman was written like that for years and the writers of the books continually perpetuated that stereotype.

But not until it was done in the show. They started it, only until recently have the comic writers moved away from it. But the general public still doesn't see it.

I don't see it, either. I have little laminated sound effect balloons and I place them on the page of the comic every time Batman hits someone.

GNR, jump on Justice right now. IMO, it's close to KC levels of quality.

Months ahead of you Doc.I started reading Justice at #1.It sure has potential to be on that same level as KC,just depends on how the rest of the story plays out.

I still havent read Kingdom Come. :(

I'm just now seriously getting into DC like for real this time. I suck...

I'm getting into DC through the trades.

I'm thinking of picking up Superman For All Seasons to get a nice good Supes story.

Yeah, that's a good one. My personal favorite is still "For the Man who has Everything". You could find that story along with a ton of other good DC stories in that Alan Moore DC universe trade.

I'm more partial to Joe Kelly's "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" myself. I think both Kelly's story and Moore's stories are in a trade called Superman's Greatest Stories or something like that.

yes, the DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore is an excellent read, lots of short stories he wrote for DC in the 80s that will give you some very smartly written glimpses around the DCU if you're new to it

I bought that WSFATJATAW (Man I hate doing that.) when they reprinted it awhile back. When they were doing that JL Elite mini a few years ago. Loved that too. Show's the uber violent types a simple, god honest truth. Don't.F**k.With.Superman.

I've heard good things about Kingdom Come. And now from a Marvel fan? OK, I'll see if I can get a "Fair condition" copy for a good price, and guess now I'll have to pick it up.

Mark

PS Where does someone who just wants comics or trades to read, not to collect, go for an affordable copy? If I want to pick up two trades for $30, that's my spending money for two weeks! I don't need a mint copy.

As long as the pages are intact get it.It's too good to pass up regardless of which compay you favor.A good story is a good story.

To be honest,I'm thinking about selling alot of my comics now and dropping alot of books to stick to trades.Maybe this feeling will pass, maybe it won't,but I really feel like I've been missing a sh1tload of good reads since getting back into comics.

always check amazon and ebay, you can get some great deals

Kingdom Come is a brilliant story, my only concern is that if you're a complete DC newbie, you may not recognize a good number of the characters involved and my either get turned off, confused, or fail to appreciate what it means when certain characters you're unfamiliar with show up. KC involves dozens of characters

I heard DC One Million was pretty good.

You know what, sure there were a crapload of characters I have never seen before. However,I knew the main players such as the entire JLA and such. But I really felt like there was so much more at stake that I didn't have to know who those guys in the background were. The story was so well written that you didn't really have to know who was who and so on.

I thought it was a fun superhero yarn. It was basically an extended JLA story, which is always good if Grant Morrison's writing. Good luck trying to track down all of the tie-ins to it, though. There were a crapload of them. Some were really good, though. Resurrection Man, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow spring to mind as memorably good. Supergirl's tie-in was goofy but fun.

One Million also introduced the android Hourman, who went on to star in a f***ing great but unfortunately short-lived series written by Tom Peyer and drawn by Rags Morales.

Well, the story is so good that it doesn't really matter if you miss some of the subtle things, like figuring out who's kid you're looking at. I did a little dance when I saw Nightwing and Starfire's daughter.
