Old topic I know, but I get this vibe from people a lot, that they think Batman is too good for DC. What these geniuses don't seem to realizes is Batman's followed mostly the same evolutionary path as Superman. Both began as merciless vigilantes who intimidated criminals with violence and even killed a few at times, showing no remorse. A few years later, both were toned down and written as boyscouts(Adam West's portrayal of Batman really wasn't so off the mark). They even had modernizations in the late 60s/early 70s both done by Dennis O'Neill, although Superman's revamp wasn't quite as popular with other Superman writers, but Superman comics remained grounded compared to the silver age. Both were once again modernized in the 80s, Batman became angry and brooding, while more emphasis was placed on the human side of Superman and he was powered down considerably.
For some reason, the general public and certain Marvel fanboys never seemed to be aware of the changes made to Superman and continued to think the planet mover who was incapable of making mistakes was still in vogue. These people are myopic because they only ever focus on Batman and perceive the rest of the DCU as if it were like an episode of Superfriends.
