WB Gives Batman Game Rights to Eidos
Source: Variety
December 18, 2006

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has become the first film studio to invest in an outside videogame publisher, buying a 10% stake in British company Eidos for $86.8 million.

As part of the agreement, WB is giving Eidos, publisher of the "Tomb Raider" games, the right to make games based on several of its comic book and TV properties, including Batman, the Looney Tunes characters, "The OC," Legion of Super-Heroes and the Hanna-Barbera catalog.

In addition, WB's home video unit will handle all distribution operations for Eidos games in the U.S.

The publisher will continue to do its own manufacturing and marketing.

Could it be...a GOOD batman videogame?
Eh, i'm betting we have a better chance with LEGO batman. But whatev. :o

This is really good news. Anything but EA.
Death to bloody EA.

Well I am now giving The Dark Knight game a chance. This is gonna prove to be my favorite of this franchise so I was pissed thinking how bad Batman Begins the game was even though I bought it anyway.. I want a freeroaming batman game where I actually have to do detective stuff to find out more about the Joker. Maybe Eidos will grant me this.

Really...

I thought Batman Begins the game was pretty darn good, but they really could have done more with it.
Multiplayer would have been really nice.
The ability to do Splinter Cell ish taking out of lightbulbs with batarangs would have been nice, instead of having to work your way around the lights.
It was a little short. They could have added stuff, and even the hardest level was too easy for me.
And its combat was a bit simplistic for me. Batman should be able to do alot more than just punch/kick/throw a gadget. He should be leaping and dodging and spin kicking!

Anyways, I hope they keep the next game close to the first, in terms of its background styles, its thematic elements, and its use of outside elements to help inspire fear in Batman's enemies. I loved scaring the crap out of Falcones thugs by overworking the steam pipes so they would start exploding everywhere.

Soo...eh, I hope they do a good job. I've liked some of Eidos's work before, maybe they'll make me happy.

Superman returns was quite dissapointing apart from the flying. Seriously, EA shouldn't be allowed to make anymore movie based games.

I can imagine this being both a good and bad decision, yes the possible games have potential.Yet that potential can be done poorly also...

I'm optimistic, but I'm thinking that it should be better than EA. I just tried playing my Marvel Nemesis: rise of the imperfects and I remembered why I hate EA so much.

The Batman Begins game was a decent effort, it would just too damn linear and restrictive. I'm hoping that Eidos can step it up and deliver something good.

Most notably, the Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain and Hitman series, and a couple of Final Fantasy games. Deus Ex, too. There are others, but those are some of the better known/popular works.

Crystal Dynamics must make a Batman game.

No prob.

JLH was distributed by Eidos, but they weren't as involved with the game as they were with some of the others I mentioned.

Okay Thanks again.

This is a good thing, most of the Batman games did suck.

I believe it's a PC mod. I've seen one for the Tumbler and other vehicles too.

its grand theft auto awesome game.
finally a good batman game even tho ithought begins was decent

One of my favorite Batman games from my childhood is The Adventures of Batman and Robin for the Sega Game Gear (the SNES version was better though). I still have them both (along with all the old consoles).
