Marvel Prepping Four Series and a Miniseries

2015. I'd assume there may be cast announcements next year at Comic-Con

I'll be watching all of these. I'm least interested in Jessica Jones and most interested in Daredevil though

Ditto.

Though don't get me wrong, I've wanted to see the Jessica Jones show come to fruition for a while, its just hard to be most excited for it when we have the Heroes for Hire, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and Daredevil also getting tv shows.

Yo, this is the right move. Marvel are some geniuses for this. Even the characters they picked are perfect, and just all around right.

Do you know how right a Luke Cage series is? It's so right, it's terrifying. Jessica Jones is what a "normal person" in the MCU series should be. The fact that she is a character for Luke Cage is additionally brilliant. Then you have Iron Fist, who also needs to be involved, and there's your Heroes for Hire and you lead it all off with the ideal-for-tv-superheroes Daredevil, who works with that crew so often.

Just those four would make a great defenders team. Don't let them run into Moon Knight, or Punisher and for goodness sakes, don't let Dr. Strange come down from his film and join the Defenders. Whooo! I could even see Ronin running as a thread through the whole thing. And don't let Black Widow be a guest on Daredevil. Craziness.

I know some people wanted a Punisher series, but the Punisher movies attest, Punisher is generic as a solo guy, but when he's a guest in the superhero world, that's when he's interesting. As a guest star or teammate, Punisher is gold, as a solo hero, he's just another guy with a gun. Moon Knight as well works best when we can't quite pin down his brand of crazy. If Dr. Strange doesn't become an Avenger, being a Defender, being their 'Nick Fury' as it were would be golden. I don't know if Jessica Jones should be a superhero per-se, I think she's great when she gives that up... but there's room for so much greatness there. I'm genuinely excited here.

Agent Carter should be a miniseries as well, imho, but this Defenders stuff is golden. My, oh my, is it golden.

For a company that actually owns all of its characters. MARVEL is really putting DC to shame. Good games & awesome animated movies will only take DC so far

In terms of utilizing their characters, I agree. But let's wait and see if the quality of these shows are there first. I'm hoping that since this is Netflix, the tone of some of these shows will be able to be different from AoS. I feel like that show is being handicapped by being on network tv.

This is absolutely perfect news. Another good thing is, for those who don't know, Netflix dumps all the episodes at once so you can binge-watch four Marvel TV shows at once. :awesome:

Punisher may not get his own show but he Moon Knight and Blade will probably appear in a few episodes.

If those episodes are incredibly popular they might develop a spin off series.

I'm a bit persuaded that Jeph Loeb is the problem with Marvel TV, and seeing as how he'll have producer powers on these shows as well... I don't know.

Regardless, I do think it should be connected with the MCU. The other brilliance of using these characters is that they don't have 'world changing' events that would call for intervention by SHIELD and the Avengers and a bigger-than-TV-budget. They deal with normal criminal elements. There are some super powers involved, but not so much that SHIELD would be on the scene all day every day. We know SHIELD lets people with powers, like Jones, to their own devices. The only limits here is that the Defenders can't be the Avengers. That's a good thing, and that limit would still be in play even if they were in different universes.

It sounds like they'll be making them one at a time starting with Daredevil, so you probably won't be able to binge them all four at once. Unless you wait a year or two :oldrazz:

We need a marvel TV subsection STAT.

Too much stuff to discuss

Still, binge-watching Daredevil all at once will be freaking awesome :oldrazz:

You know, I've got to say, on a whole, Marvel and DC are both going to be spoiling us BIG TIME in the next three years when it comes to tv and cinema. 2015 is going to be a huge year with Batman vs Superman, Avengers and Antman plus we have this new new slate of Marvel tv series PLUS by that time we'll have Gotham, The Flash, Arrow and Constantine on tv.

This next decade is looking to be the most exciting time to be a comic book fan.

The fact that these shows will be on Netflix means that they will get away with a lot more adult oriented stuff than Agents of Shield.

Man this news really surprised me. I wasn't expecting an announcement anytime soon. I thought it was going down the new hulk tv show route.

Anyways...I'm really looking forward to these shows. Especially DD and Luke Cage. I cann't wait!!!

These TV shows can find ways to connect to the movies without repeatedly beating down the movie connections like Agents of Shield.

I think because they're building up to their own thing, they'll be fine. Also, because those characters' series are soooo rich, they won't have time to connect to the MCU films. I'm sure "The Battle of New York" will be mentioned, and perhaps impact these characters on a personal level, perhaps have a significant effect on Hell's Kitchen, but I think in the end, things like Kingpin, Bullseye, Elektra, Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, The Hand, Stick, Echo/Ronin and even Stilt Man will get the focus over Chitauri relics and Iron Man nods in Daredevil's series. Seeing as how they are all available at once, there's no real point in having these kinds of cameos to drum up ratings. It's got to be quality all on its own or it won't get any traction.

Now Jessica Jones and the Alias series, that really does only work as an intersection with the MCU as a whole. That one needs the cameos and nods in order to be what she is. A Captain America appearance (possibly Fallen Son style with Sebastian Stan) would actually be a good thing there, and of course Daredevil would naturally be involed, as would Rick Jones and a few others. There are still original characters in there, but she actually needs cameos, I would dare say face to face time with some movie characters, even if it's just Rhodey or whatever.

An appearance by Don Cheadle on any one of those shows would be awesome. We know that he's not against doing TV. Same with Sebastian Stan.

Man this is friggin awesome. I woke up to this fantastic news and couldn't be happier. Marvel is really trying to take over the world folks and I'm hoping they do so!

Marvel is going to have to step up their contracts game though and start including a ton of cameos for their actors, even the big names so we can see just how connected the MCU is. Which will be so dope, a truly connected universe
