Born Again Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again General Discussion Thread

We already got tons of Frank Miller and Bendis inspired dark and edgier takes on character.

I think this time around...I prefer a more Mark Waid's inspired swashbuckling adventure type story. Especially now with his original red and yellow suit.

DD isnt always a dark and gloomy character though.

there were rumors, DD only has that red/yellow-costume in She Hulk. He will already get the black/red-costume in the Echo-series

In general, I think 10-13 episodes is the sweet spot for a good tv season length. I’m sure they will break up the 18 episodes into two parts and hopefully they will have separate arcs with a beginning, middle, and end.

I think we will get some wisecracking Daredevil since that is Disney MCU's bread and butter. I still think we will get moments of angsty catholic guilt Matt Murdock though.

Just hoping the budget is much higher than when it was on Netflix.

Yeah...I remembered what Mark Waid said when describing Matt Murdock:
"He can be a little funnier, not Spider-Man funny but just less grim"

I think its safe bet that is the approach Marvel Studios will take on this character this time around.

Random supposition: maybe a big chunk of this show will be flashbacks. Basically, there's the "Present Day" plotline, and simultaneously a "Past" plotline that ties into the present and reveals how all the players got to where they are. That past plot would be where most of the actual plot callbacks to the Born Again storyline would be.

I was at a live YouTube chat the other day .
One of the hosts said,
one of the reasons that the new Daredevil show is going to be able to crank out 18 episodes is,
because they are going to be rather short,
30-35 minutes.
Has anybody else heard something similar to this?

I doubt that person had any info it's just common sense, that's how most of the dplus show Episode lengths are. They'll probably range from 30-45 minutes

I'm a bit miffed that they basically took the Netflix suit and threw a new coat of paint on it.

The suit needs revamped.

I'm assuming the series is going to be long as a means to reintroduce other characters, like Jessica Jones and maybe Punisher/Luke Cage. Have them weave in and out for 2/3 eps a piece or such. With Krysten Ritter doing a new show perhaps the timelines match up also with this coming 2024.

Seems pretty plausible tbh.

I wonder if Jessica makes a cameo in She-Hulk? Then we get an announcement at D23? There's 9 episodes of She-Hulk, so I'm sure there will be a few surprises along the way.

heavily rumored….and by now allmost all of those rumors came true

I just hope we get a microwave throw callback. :o

18 is a lot….and Disney hasn’t given me much confidence they can properly pace their shows.

I'm assuming the episodes are going to be around 30 mins each. 18 is a lot though, but I have to believe theres a deliberate reason for so many when all the rest of the D+have had much shorter episode counts.

Look, this show will live or die on the showrunner and writers. I really hope it retains some of the spirit and grit of the Netflix series and we get some epic one shot fight sequences.

Outside of maybe two seasons, its not like the Netflix shows were ever great shakes with pacing. . .

I honestly haven't seen many shows over the past two years, from any studio, that are paced properly

but yeah, I have faith that, in choosing to make it 18 episodes, they have a reason and a structure already set out that they feel necessitates that length and makes it flow nicely... that said, I'm sure there will be at least one or two throwaway episodes, like any full-length series on TV

Ahem. I think you're forgetting somebody. :D

It would be nice if they got Erik Oleson or even Steven S. DeKnight back to showrun.

Don’t get me wrong, the biggest problem I had with Daredevil, JJ, and Luke Cage on Netflix were the episodes being too long to the point that most of the middle of the seasons felt like filler. However, Disney has followed a terrible set of tropes with almost every single one of their Disney+ shows that I hope they don’t do the same here.
