Born Again Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again General Discussion Thread

Ok Ok ok, had a long day of work and just learned this news. First off, F YES at Beranthal coming back! He IS The Punisher! Super excited.

But also, WTF Marvel?! Why not bring back Woll and Hansen?! They better not be recasting those characters. You cannot bring back D'Onofrio, Cox AND Beranthal and still claim that this is a fresh reboot. Why play games? Bring back the important cast members and just continue in a brand new direction. I dont know why Marvel seems to be seemingly scared of linking this to the netflix series despite using three of the major actors from said series in the same roles?

I never liked Karen so I’m much more ok with Punisher coming back as long as they don’t water him down. I don’t need the over the top violence, but I want him to still be brutal in his approach.

I don't necessarily think they're scared. I think they're treading lightly before they come out and say "Yes, the Netflix shows are canon".

What if half the Netflix cast decided they didn't want to come back? What if they have conflicting schedules that prevent them from being in DD: BA? I think it's more of a precaution than anything.

Hopefully you’re right, and they’re at least negotiating with everyone.

Boling down the female lead of a show, which she appeared in every single episode, and the crossover series, as not mattering because the male lead stopped sleeping with her is definitely not something that should be done.

Daredevil was about Nelson, Murdock, and Page. The show knew that, and it's why it was such a success. People getting worried about violence, when I think they need to be worried about the actual heart of the show. And it's not whether Matt can bleed everywhere. It's the story and the characters.

Weird if they get recast. Pretty much all of recasting decisions have either been because the character was minor in media (Cassie) or other behind the scenes issues (Howard). I don't think that's the case with Foggy and Karen. If the show was shorter, I could see it, but at 18 episodes I'm a little baffled at how they could remove them entirely. I guess it's possible the two actors didn't want to commit to 18 episodes? Or were done with Daredevil? Odd either way.

I seriously wish they wouldn't have Castle in the show though. Bernthal is great in the part, but if you want more Punisher, make more Punisher.

It's 18 episodes. I think you can definitely have a few episodes where Matt goes and does other things. Like with She-Hulk, and her interaction with him or Wong.

I also wouldn’t have thought those 2 would break the bank to sign up. Seems a very surprising decision.

Im fine with it
Supporting characters don't show up in every comic and nobody bats an eye

Although, with the supposed focus on the legal aspects, it is a little odd that Foggy won't be showing up
but Karen's legal qualifications were always suspect
Can you be a named partner of a law firm if you never passed the bar or even went to law school?

If we are to assume the Netflix show is still canon, it's been 8+ years since the end of season 3 (in universe time). So it is conceivable to think these characters are off doing their own thing.

Yeah, maybe Murdock, Nelson and Page really took off and they're just busy
It's very rare multiple partners would handle one case together
I wouldn't be surprised if Foggy gets name-dropped as handling some high-profile case that's keeping him from being able to do the pro-bono stuff

Paralegals are vital to a law firm. Hell, I've seen some do amazing things. Just look up the DoNotPay issues.

Yes, but Paralegals typically don't get their name on the door
but if it is all canon, and it has been 8 years, I suppose she could've gone through pre-law, law school, and passed the bar in that time... tough for someone who's working full time though (and usually you need the pre-law before you can even be a paralegal)

There’s not going to be anywhere near as much blood or extreme violence but he can still be aggressive and brutal within whatever limits they go with. Just hope they get the character right and his interactions with Daredevil (which were just amazing on the Netflix show).

I just don't know how you can do the Punisher after the summer of 2020. When it has become clear his symbol has been coopted by violent thugs.

By having him go after those people on the small screen. "Frank Castle, The Punisher, stands in trial for the slaughter of a militia group known as "The Brave Boys"

This might not fit within Born Again per se, but I think especially if we get another Punisher show it could have an element where Frank goes after cops that misuse his symbol, that got away with police brutality, ruined innocent peoples' lives, etc. After all, cops misusing their power isn't much different from what military guys like Russo, Rawlins, and Schoonover were doing and they were the whole reason he became the Punisher in the first place. Though it would be hard of course to really go into systemic issues beyond "bad cops" with a character like the Punisher. Maybe hiring some of the writers that worked on "We Own This City" with Bernthal might be a good idea for that? I heard that that show is one of the best when it comes to tackling issues with US police forces.

Nice. :D Hope there's a lot of courtroom stuff.

Jeff Sneider said on Hot Mic what Echo would make an appearance on the show but I can see that being a flashback to her shooting Kingpin.
