He'll be interviewed on CNBC in a few minutes. Just thought Id let you know. Close if needed.

The lead reporter in the second clip makes a comment about Marvel making a goof movie proves that making movies is easy. That is an obvious attempt to make the art and business of comic books seem silly and stupid. In other words, hes an idiot.

I guess alot of these people forget that 30yr and 40 something grew with these character over the years. We want to see these characters make it to the big screen.

I didnt really get that. I dont think he said that to
talk down on comic books but rather, to point out how good of a job Marvel did with the movie.

the exact quote is "it shows that maybe its not so hard to make a movie".

What is that comment supposed to mean? Can we find any clips where reporters are stating that because ANY non comic related films quality means that making movies is easy?

It just seems like a slap against comics, and even the other two reporters corrected him on it.

Not quite sure what you were trying to say there.

Anyway, I just think youre looking too much into a simple comment to go as far as calling someone an idiot. Mark Haines is a pretty smart guy and one of my favorite anchors on CNBC.

That redhead was hot.

Simple. Iron man is a good movie. Haines responds that "it proves that making movies isnt difficult". How exactly does iron man prove that? Are movies easy to make because of Citizen Cane? Or Saving Private Ryan? Or any other movie? No. In the anchors opinion it took a comic book movie being good to prove that movie making is easy.

And that statement is idiotic. Making a great movie clearly is not easy, as the vast majority of professionals in the field seem to have a hard time doing it.

I love Marvel studios! i am so looking forward to more of their films, the hell with sony and Fox! especially Fox they just screw them over anyways! I'm so glad Marvel is taking the films into their own hands... now at least they'll treat them with respect unlike Fox.

:applaud

Yes that statement would be idiotic if he was serious. Its pretty clear hes not really claiming movie making is easy. Hes just saying Marvel did a good movie. Period. It was the first time they were making a movie all by themselves, and yes, it was gonna be hard, and yes they pulled it off... I find it silly to argue about a simple comment when in the whole segment they were all praising Marvel and the movie.

HE wasnt praising marvel. he was praising their revenues. His statement was clear...in respond to a statement that Iron man is a good movie and that there is demand for marvel movies he ststed "and it shows that maybe its not so hard to make a movie".

Both of the other reporters doing that story felt the need to correct him on that statement, so clearly Im not the only one here.

Bottom line...in his opinion, if Marvel can make a good movie then it isnt hard to make a good movie...

I think the point he was trying to make is making good comic book films can be a lot easier then it appears. One reason the vast majority of professionals struggle to make good comic book films is because they rush their production schedules and release dates. Hire hack or inexperienced directors. Make major and ridiculous changes to comic book source material(John Peters and the Infamous Superman Lives script/ Simon Kinberg, Zak Penn and the horrible X-Men 3 script). Misscasting actors and actresses for the wrong roles.

It's no coincidence that 90% of Fox comic book films suck because this the formula they follow every time. Batman 3,4, and Catwoman made WB notorius for making these mistakes. Fortunately, the WB learned their lesson. The same can't be said for Fox.

I think it was more of a reference to this being Marvel's first time putting out a movie all on its own rather than just being a comic book related company. Kinda like saying what were they afraid of before?

I tend to doubt it.

Comics have been derided as juvenile by the mainstream media forever...and even a slew of movie hits in a row wont change that.

No argument there... I doubt Haines was trying to rip on comics overall there though and definitely didnt deserve to be called an idiot.

that's what i was thinking, maybe he tried to say that but used the wrong words

my 'puter doesn't want to play these links.

Yay Marvel!
When is Marvel getting Spidey & X-Men back? I'm starting to have hopes for Hulk now.
