Entertainment Tonight attended the Iron Man premiere and got a chance to speak to Viacom and CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey who said that if the movie does as well as expected, the studio will be looking to release the sequel in 2010.

What's interesting is that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has already "claimed" the first weekend of the summer that year (May 7, 2010), but if you look at the calendar, Iron Man 2 could easily open on April 30, which is a Friday, essentially giving it almost a similar release date as the first film.

Awesome. I wish Marvel would release a schedule of some sort on when we can expect Thor, Ant-Man and Captain America as well, leading into an Avengers movie.

I just like having stuff to look forward to. :o

i think we can expect an avangers movie in 2015 oresomething lol

I'd like to see Captain America next, that should be Marvel's priority now.

THOR does not have the same appeal as Cap, as for Avengers I'd like to see that set up in Iron Man 2.

Well, RDJ is 43, so I hope they won't take too long to make another Iron Man. As amazing as Downey is, his age is the only hinderance and I don't want to wait until he's 50 to make sequels.

2010?
well, that's what I was expecting.

This is actually not a bad move... the cast is old... why jump to different huge big budget franchises when you got something that sticks? Give us Thor in 09... save Captain for 2011. It'll be worth it... then is adds up... IM3/Avengers 2013/2014 back to back... you can even push a possible Hulk sequel to 2011 so it won't be in the same year as IM again. Everything gets done in the six year span. All the actors/directors get the time off that they need in between. I don't want to get too carried away. Hopefully Hulk will be good enough to merit a sequel though because I would hate to see Norton walk. Long ass ways away.

I say wait for the Avengers movie to introduce Cap, Ultimates style, then spin him off into a solo movie.

there won't be an avengers movie, you're all just doing some hopeful wishing.

it'll be about 2018 until one comes out.

I don't see a problem with Hulk and Iron Man in the same year.
Iron Man May and Hulk June.
IM has enough time to get a lot of money.

Yeah but we don't know what these other studios are going to be planning as well. Fox may move on something... even Sony with Spiderman. Obviously we can expect another DC film in there... preferably BB3. I just think the Hulk will suffer this year at the BO b/c it is the sandwich film... having some breathing room in terms of releasing it in a lighter comic book heavy season sometime in the future would benefit a potential sequel assuming this year's film is a success.

Cool, heres hoping the movie does well than. This is only two years away correct? Can't wait.

i think this would be a perfect line-up. if only marvel would look at it and do it.

Does anyone think that 2010 is too soon for a sequel? Will there be enough hype and desire for a new movie at that time, or should Paramount wait longer to make the desire greater?

well if it's half as good as IM1 then that's wonderful news.

How are they doing Captain America and Avengers in the same year?

Heard about this. It's amazing! Woohoo.

Hmm, how are they going to introduce Thor in IM2? I hope Thor's addition won't distract the movie's focus, which is Iron Man, and the talented cast we have in IM. And having both a Cap and Avenger movie in one summer is rather risky; I'd rather have Marvel holding off Avengers until the following year.

You should read the SHH news more often. :) Thor's getting his own movie - not being introduced inside IM2.

You could be right. Although it's not impossible to think that if you like Cap, you'll want to see more of him + all your other favorites as soon as possible. I'd go see IM 2 right NOW if it were available. So yeah, it may very well work like they plan.

I read the script reviews and seen parts of it, and it actually does seem like a great way of introducing the character, I'm just really surprised that he will be introduced in Iron Man 2, really can't wrap my mind about how that'll work, sort of hoping he'll be more of a cameo then a central focus, but if that was the case, why make an announcement about it instead of trying to keep it a surprise...

I think this could almost blow the Iron Man 2 movie if too much time is spent on him when there are things like Mandarin and the 10 Rings, War Machine, alcoholism and further development of Potts and Stark to be concerned with...

I love people that act cute because they think they're being smart and making someone else feel like a dodo, when they're the ones who should follow their own ****ing advice.
