Moon Knight Marvel Studios' Moon Knight General Discussion Thread

When all is said and done, I wonder where Moon Knight will rank for me among MCU Disney+. I have (in this order): Loki, WandaVision, Hawkeye and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I didn't hate Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but the show to me had one inherent issue, one I have mentioned before: too many people with the same enhanced abilities without anything that makes them different than the original Steve Rogers so I was glad when many of those characters were killed off. Yes, there were multiple characters in Loki with the same enhanced abilities as Loki, but they were all different versions of Loki, which I was fine with. I gave the finales of WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier a pass because they were restricted due to COVID.

I kind of stopped listening to RT reviews, especially for MCU, since it’s so wildly disconnected to my tastes. How Hawkeye got a 92% when it’s one of the most awful of all MCU is beyond me, there with Eternals and Thor 2. So a mid-range RT score for Moon Knight doesn’t say yay or nay for me. Still really looking forward to it.

I loved Hawkeye. It's essentially what I was looking for in the MCU series. It handed off the mantle of Hawkeye to the next generation. Great action scene probably my favorite with Kate and Clint escaping the Tracksuit Mafia. Had the special guests that I love MCU entering with Yelena and Kingpin. I'd be honest, I honestly thought it would have been Falcon and Winter Soldier considering Cap has always been my favorite MCU character.

In regards to my ranking of the live-action stuff so far:

1)Wandavision
2)Loki
3)The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
4)Hawkeye

Wandavision is pretty unbeatable for me so far. Aside from maybe a few hiccups here and there, like Hayward and the finale kind of hampered by COVID, I love it. I fell in love Wanda as a character, the conceit of committing to a semi-sitcom, semi-Twilight Zone formula approach to the show, down to authentically utilizing a lot of those old show techniques. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bethany really exercised their acting chops and showed sides to them I had never really seen before. Kathryn Hahn is an absolute delight every time she pops up onscreen. Christophe Beck’s score has become one of my favorites in the MCU that I come back to and listen every so often (Genesis and Ascendent are absolutely transcendent). The experience of watching this week to week in the midst of COVID was quite an experience for me that I don’t think I’ll ever have again quite like that. Did I mention Elizabeth Olsen? Absolute acting goddess and another on my ever growing list of celebrity crushes.

Loki is kind of tied with Wandavision for me. TFATWAS, despite some glaring issues in the writing and cutting for the Flagsmashers as a result of COVID that hampered their onscreen development and presence, is still quite a good show. Hawkeye, while I still like it a lot, didn’t quite hold my attention as much as the other shows. If it wasn’t for the divine Hailee Steinfeld and her banter/dynamic with Jeremy Renner throughout, along with the effervescent Florence Pugh (who can do no wrong, imho), I probably wouldn’t have engaged with it as much.

We’ll see where Moon Knight lands in my rankings. It’ll take a lot to usurp the current holder of the throne.

I will say, given that the reviewers only have 4/6 of the episodes, lets just say I am wary of the early praise. Marvel especially has issues with the finales.

The reason I have Loki ahead of WandaVision by a little was because while Loki is a part of the MCU, I love that the show didn't go to the MCU well too much. I thought the show did a great job of showing Loki's future in the MCU by having the TVA show archival footage from Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers Infinity War and that the TVA had archival footage from the other parts of the MCU as well. That to me shows that while it's still a part of the MCU, it's also in its own story not reliant on past stories in the MCU to prop it up and instead they moved the MCU forward with the introduction of Kang. Plus they introduced a lot of characters that I will not be asking "so when will we see them again?" because they are all variants of Loki. It's the self containment nature of the story in Loki that gives the show a small advantage over WandaVision for me.

This was my most disappointing Marvel show to date. More disappointing than Defenders and Iron Fist.

Too much focus on Steven Grant. Shares little in common with what makes Moon Knight such a fun, interesting character.

Harrow as a villain kinda sucks.

Damn that sucks to hear, but I'm still willing to go into this with a pretty open and optimistic mindset, but it would be really disappointing if this ended up not delivering considering how hyped I am for it.

This is fair. What didn't work for me might work for others. Watch the show and decide for yourselves.

Of the first four, EP1 is OK-ish.

1.Loki
2.WandaVision
3.Hawkeye
4.The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had a lot of really great ideas with deeply flawed execution. It's a frustrating show.
I was so excited for Loki but was left a bit disappointed. I really should rewatch it and give it a second chance.

For me:
1. The Falcon and Winter Soldier. (The one I wasn't expecting much of.)
2. Wanda
3. Hawkey
4. Loki

Aw man Vile that hurts to hear. Moon Knight for me was the ONE Disney + show that made my ears perk up when Feige announced the slate a couple years back. I felt like it had the potential to be the next Daredevil but I'm hearing a lot of mixed stuff including your review.

What do you think was the best Marvel Disney+ one so far? Overall Marvel for me it was Daredevil.

For now, not counting the Netflix shows. I'd say WandaVision was the best so far. WandaVision was a slow burn, but I at least felt like they were pretty much honoring the characters and stories of the past.

I think it was a tighter, more focused story as well.

Season Two of Loki will depend on whether or not it remains #1 for me. If it doesn't, WandaVision becomes #1.

Well the other thing that made me perk up when Feige made the announcement was saying they were going to make it like Indiana Jones...which didn't sound like a good idea for Moon Knight...and...it's really not.

I'm just speculating here, but it felt like they did everything possible to avoid any comparisons between Moon Knight and Batman and Daredevil.

A lot of people hated WandaVision because of the Ralph Bohner thing and the fact that the cast said some things that were not true leading to wild speculation.

I fear for the reviews of She Hulk. It will be interesting to see how critics who usually review superhero stuff but never comedic shows feel about the comedic feel of She Hulk. There are a lot of good comedies these days like Righteous Gemstones and It's Always Sunny but also Ted Lasso, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Barry.

At least in the case of She-Hulk there's a precedence for her and some wacky, zany stuff.
