Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 Thread 2.0

My interest in picking it up has dropped off a canyon right now. I'll just wait until they make a MUA2 Gold Edition or something. If not, then I'll just wait until MUA3 I guess. Too much confusion and strange **** with this.

Activison continues to make themselves the biggest *****ebags in the game industry. They're the new EA, worse probably.

No worries, Ubisoft are working to try and fight Activision for the role of biggest jerk in the industry. They aren't there yet, but they're trying. :p

Yea, I never planned on getting MUA2 in the first place, so this new doesn't effect me. My brother has it and I'll just be borrowing it from him to try it out.

it sucks i missed the DLC for MUA2, but at the same time I dont even find myself playing that game anymore. I played MUA1 for a very long time, at least a year or two, I played MUA2 for a month or two and became sick of it, definatley a far cry from the lasting appeal of MUA1 in my opinion...

Well, and be honest, how likely were you to pick up Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 before the DLC was pulled? And i dont mean renting or purchasing used. How likely were you to purchase a new copy of this game before that DLC disappeared? I mean were Carnage, Magneto, Psylocke, Cable and Black Panther 5 characters that you absolutely had to play as?

Also, how did Activision make themselves look more "*****ey" with this move? Now dont get me wrong, i am no Activision fan but they did EXACTLY what they told you they were going to do. They pulled the DLC at the end of December. They stated that in their November 5th press release for the DLC for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2.

I mean at this point, there almost shouldnt be any more discussion on this, i mean the only thing worth discussing now is why the DLC was a limited release. Activision said they were going to pull the DLC and they did. We all must have glossed over that part in the press release but it was there. Ppl like Ryuuie can go on and on about how that was not there in the original press release but they have absolutely no evidence to support that.

even if they said they'd pull it Dec 31st, they pulled it a lot earlier then that! that is bad business practises IMO

Well then thats a legit complaint. I never checked until a few days after the 31st, so i dont know when it was pulled exactly, but iv heard it was pulled from the PSN by like the 27th. That is something to be upset over, but not the fact that the DLC was actually pulled. They told us they were going to do that.

Like we said, you just arent quite up to speed on how business works, be it from the consumers viewpoint or the viewpoint from the business. I dont know, maybe you're young, but you obviously are missing something.

This DLC incident wont change much. People will not be flocking to their local retailers to return their copies of M:UA2 as you have put it. People are not going to start boycotting the next Activision Marvel game etc etc. You are just over estimating who actually pays attention to all of this.

And you're over exaggerating what I said. Big surprise there.

If you truly think that people won't do SOMETHING over this no matter how significant, then you are completely in denial.

It's probably either youth, or he's just never followed sales trends in the industry. Ryuuie, I'm part of a group that follow sales trends pretty close over at Penny Arcade, and I'm telling you that this dlc incedent won't effect the sales of the game either way.

Most of those who would have been fans of this game/genre/or subject matter have already bought and probably beaten the game whether or not dlc ever came for it.

On top of that, who knows why they limited the dlc. For all we know, they may have had a contract with Disney that required that they pull it down after the end of the year, it may have been beyond their control.

Also, any company that records and archives press releases have the release for the dlc for MUA2. I'll give you another example to show that it wasn't a case of IGN making it up. Google is your friend:

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Ma...Now-Available-For-PS3-And-Xbox-360-20929.html

I find Penny Arcade to be one of those half-ass sites like Kotaku so that doesn't really impress me, sorry. Nice job title, I guess.

Anyway, as I said to the troll up there, do you honestly think that people aren't going to be pissed and do something (no matter how insignificant)?

I guess Marvel fans will take anything they're given no matter what happens though considering how crappy the game is. That is the only reason I could even see nothing happening.

Think of it like this Ryuuie, it's those Marvel fans that made Iron Man sell as well as it did...so yea, they'll buy anything. :p

As far as PA goes, the community is really good there, I'm not sure where you got the idea that they are no good. They are generally more level headed than what you find around here.

But we all do it as a hobby mostly, and some that actually work in the industry partake in our NPD/Sales thread. You should check it out, you may find the discussion and figures interesting. But yea, it's not an official title by any means, we are just fans of our hobby and closely follow the sales trends because we want our hobby to continue to succeed.

Haha you need to calm down. Dont get mad at me because we pointed out that you had absolutely no idea what you were talking about.

Sure some people out there are gonna be upset about this, but they are people like you, little irrational know it alls. People who are pissed off because they failed to read the press release that said this DLC wasnt going to be available forever, and as iv said countless times before, that for some odd ass reason you keep ignoring, you(as in the ppl who are up in arms over this) are such a small part of the demographic, Activision wont even notice you.

I think Iron Man sold mostly because of Robert Downey Jr and his absurd awesomeness. Did you see what he was doing for promotions for the movie? I swear he must think, somewhere deep down, that he IS Tony Stark / Iron Man. The guy's just totally having all kinds of fun with the role.

Yea, Iron Man is a Marvel character, but I think there are more Robert Downey Jr. fans than there are Iron Man (there's got to be a reason why Sherlock Holmes did decently).

Hm. You're making PA seem very interesting so I'll give it another look. I lumped it in with the likes of Kotaku since it just kinda gave off the vibe of "uninformed articles with bad editors" the first time I viewed it but I'll check it out again.

I do like the whole "more level-headed than most people here" bit, that's always more appealing. Looking at your posts and comparing them to those of ProjectPat, you're one of the more level-headed people here, I'd say.

Thanks Ryuuie.

I was actually talking about how well the Iron Man game did. The movie was all kinds of awesome and should have done well...the game though, was pretty much a steaming pile. It still sold incredibly well for some reason. :p

Give him a chance though, ProjectPat isn't so bad. We're all united in our love of our hobby, that's all that counts.

And yes, check out the PA forums, especially the NPD thread. We have a new one running each month. You may just enjoy joining our discussions on the sales trends of the industry.

Oh, yea. That game was an absolute piece of crap. That made me just shake my head at every Marvel fan who DARED to even look at the covering for the game. Reminds me of people who continuously bought Wii Play... the ONLY reason that sold was there was a free Wii Remote.

Honestly, I think Marvel fans have been dealt so many ****** hands by Activision (who is the main company to publish most recent Marvel games) they'll take (and stand for) ANYTHING in hopes that a good game will release. That's my reasoning behind nothing being done over the whole M:UA 2 DLC thing.

I've noticed that pretty much EVERY reply I've gotten from Pat (no matter if I'm replying to him or not) is filled with passive-aggressive trolling. I don't see him as a fan, I see him as someone who just wants to start **** for absolutely no reason. Me? I only go after someone if they deserve it....like him.

If there's anyone on this forum that I think of as a troll AND a diehard fan, it'd be DACMAN for sure. But only if you go against what he thinks of as a great Spider-Man game. As much as I don't like his replies, I honestly gotta hand it do him for being a diehard fan, I suppose.

PA's forums remind me of SA's forums. I have yet to find a forum that equals that level of insanity, awesomeness, awfulness (hah!), and all around bad-assery as that (who else bans the accounts of dead forum users so no one tries to log on as them?). If that describes the PA forums, count me in.

Pretty much all computer game/movie tie ins sell well. Not much thinking about it required.

I never attacked you. Go back and read how defensive you get over your posts. You are way too damn high strung man.

Oh and by all means, "keep going after me", you are doing a great job there.

So is the general assumption that there is not going to be any more DLC ?

To be honest I was disappointed in the game. I played the first one over and over again. With this I got bored after beating the story on both modes.

Yea. Dont hold your breath for any more DLC.

what I ahte more than anything is that there was no warning. I wouldnt have waited to try and get it
Ditto.

I doubt Disney is behind this. Why would they target MUA2 but not MUA1, Spider-Man 3 or Wolverine? Or for Sega the Incredible Hulk DLC (the online expansion, that SUCKS).

Well, the thing is, there was warning. They told us they were going to do this when they released the DLC. Now they didnt say it very loudly, but they did tell us.

Looks like we FINALLY have an answer.

Activision has decided to not renew it's license for Marvel characters in downloadable content without telling anyone.

This pretty much means the DLC will never come back, there will not be any more DLC for M:UA 2, the DLC for M:UA 1 is gone for good from the Marketplace (though Gold Edition is out there for used price) and there will be no future DLC for any Marvel game published by Activision.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/...lliance-Licenses-DLC-No-Longer-Available.html

Without giving its consumer (aka us) any notice, Activision has decided not to renew its licenses with Marvel Comics for the use of their characters in downloadable content. This includes the Hero and Villain packs from Marvel Ultimate Alliance, as well as the Character Pack and Juggernaut download for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. All of the content has now been pulled from the marketplace. Could this be a reaction to poor sales and review scores for MUA2? Perhaps, but it's still a pretty crappy move. In a somewhat more classy move however, the trailer for the DLC you can no longer get it still up! Smooth, Activision. Real smooth.

I have no problem with them not renwing the liscense. It sucks that they didnt give us any warning aout that. Had they done so, I would have rushed to buy it instead of waiting.

I thought about that myself, if I would have rushed to get it...and honestly, I wouldn't have. I have borrowed it from my brother to play through and achievement farm it a bit, and all in all, it's a rather mediocre game.

It's very much a downgrade from XML2 and MUA.

Here's the thing: if the licenses aren't actually separate, then they'll discontinue both games and the used prices will go up high.

Speaking of high prices, the price for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: Gold Edition has gone up to $50 - $90 used on Amazon.com due to this (you can imagine how bad GameStop has raised their prices).

http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Ultimate-Alliance-Gold-Xbox-360/dp/B000OPPR22/

EDIT: Oh and they most likely won't be able to make a Gold Edition for M:UA 2.

Interesting find Ryuuie. I hadn't thought about that. The used price of the Gold Edition will be super crazy now.

I doubt they'll stop selling UA2 outright, but you are right, this will probably mean no gold edition.

Damn, I wish I had brought MUA1: Gold Edition. Now it'd be too expensive. :(
