Marvelman returns in June

I really hope he stays out of the 616 universe, personally. We've got enough Superman analogues there, and the thing that differentiates him from most of the others is the quality of his stories under Gaiman and Moore, neither of whom are likely to be working on him again.

Let's hope if he does end up in 616... it's just to kill Sentry off FOREVER.

So, does the hardcover come out in June or is it just that one-shot?

I think they said the HC comes out in July.

This is great news. However, one thing concerns me. Up until Miracleman #6, the series consisted of reprints from Warrior Magazine. From Issue 7 onwards, the character officially became Miracleman in America. And alot of Neil Gaiman's stories, and the stories in the Apocrypha mini-series pertain to the "Age of Miracles".

So I guess they're changing it all back to Marvelman. Which makes me wonder: Will all of the Eclipse comics from issue 7 onwards be worth more since Marvel will presumably tamper with the text to make it "Marvelman"?

Also, from the sounds of it, the Premiere hardcover sounds like it's reprinting the original Mick Anglo stuff first and not the Alan Moore/Neil Gaiman stuff, which they'll eventually get to. I kind of want those first, as fun as some of the Mick Anglo stuff is.

I have a feeling that were going to be reading the 40's & 50's Marvelman in this reprint....

Though no doubt at some point soon will they re-release the Eclipse material...

:yay:

Outside the Moore and Gaimen stuff, I really don't have a huge amount of interest in the character. Then again, I know diddly about him outside that stuff

And all you really have to know is that he's a Captain Marvel knockoff.

The Moore and Gaiman stuff is what everyone wants reprinted and in the latter case completed. The Mick Anglo stuff has some curiousity factor, but it's not going to keep clamoring for it beyond the first reprint or two. Nor is it anything you really need to know before Moore's first issue.

They're just going to milk Marvelman for all he's got until they put out the stuff people actually want. Mick Anglo's stuff will certianly sell better if it gets to be labeled as the first Marvelman publishing in decades.

his costume is awful...if he does become 616 lets hope he gets some new clothes too!!

Brevoort: Marvelman Is Still Coming, Honest

From Newsarama 09 April 2013:
Axel Alonso Says MARVELMAN Announcement Coming Soon
Albert Ching said:
Newsarama: Axel, not sure how much you can speak to this right now, but given the recent Angela news, fans are naturally wondering about another character in a seemingly similar situation, Marvelman — is there any progress involving that character?

Axel Alonso:
There has been progress. Considerable progress. And we'll be making an announcement soon.

I'm a huge fan of Marvelman. I'm very excited about seeing him being published by Marvel.

Who Actually Owns What With MARVELMAN, Anyway?

Wouldn't be surprised if he came out of AU along with Angela or Infinity.

A good theory I read was that the whole Angela thing is really just a smokescreen for Marvelman

its still weird to me that they would bring a Spawn character over to Marvel
She's close in character to some Marvel characters, plus she's an Angel so that adds a weird wrinkle to the gods and afterlives of the Marvel U, opens up the possibilty of more angels and demons being introduced, I dunno, its a strange move that i definitely didn't see coming...

I'm still torn on how Marvel Man should be used/not used in the Marvel Universe...

First of all, I would like to see Gaimen & Marvel finally release Marvel Man #25, and that he gets to finish that story... so I can see Marvel releasing the first 24 issues twice a month so that it takes a year to get caught up, and then Gaimen can release the final issues of his story.

But in order for that to happen, we would have to "assume" that it's an alternate universe, and whatever happens to Micky Moran in Gaimen's story will just be continued when he gets brought into the Marvel Universe... of course, the scary part about marvel Man being brought into the Marvel Universe might also mean that Kid Marvel Man gets brought in... yikes... and that seems to be what Marvel is intending on doing...

... which ultimately, would be lovely for me.

It's been 28 years since I read Miracle Man #1... I would love to see that story finally come to it's proper conclusion.

Oh fun, so KM could have a whole other London to lay waste to?

Does Marvel own that Marvelman/Miracleman run to release reprints/trades, or do they just have the rights to tell future stories?

I never read Gaiman's run. For me, Miracleman's run ended with Moore's. I knew Gaimain's was never completed so I didn't even bother to start it. I loved Moore's run, though. I'd like to own it at some point.

I believe that they have Gaimen's blessings to release his stories because it will enable him to be able to finally finish it... Alan Moore's ownership was given to Gaimen... I believe all the artists that worked on the books are on board... the real hold-up has been McFarlane's fight to hold onto the characters...

Based on the Angela news, I would think that he finally feels "compensated' to let it go... which means he got a really nice cheque for basically being an arsewipe.... :cmad:

If they ever brought Marvelman into the 616 universe, they'd have to completely reboot the character as if all the stuff in his old comic never happened. Gaiman's run left off with the Earth in a far different state from the 616 Marvel U.

They'd pretty much have to keep Marvelman in his own separate universe, like all the Ultimate and Supreme characters.

Unless they brought Marvelman from his world into the 616 post-Gaiman.

Don't be vulgar.

But that's different. I neither know nor care who or what Angela is or isn't.
