Marvel's Eisner Nominations

Why isn't The Escapists anywhere on that list? :cmad:

My thoughts:

- I don't read CAPTAIN AMERICA, DAREDEVIL, or CRIMINAL. The reasons, respectively, are: never was interested in reading his solo, haven't read in years, and not my genre.

- calling YOUNG AVENGERS a "continuing series" is like calling ALL-STAR BATMAN a "monthly" to me.

- Nice to see THE ETERNALS get some repect.

- With books like ALL-STAR SUPERMAN and artists like Cassaday honored, it looks like no book will ever win an Eisner for shipping on time.

- Brubaker made international headlines for CA #25; for that reason alone he'll win. It's like hype and the Oscars. Not that I doubt he's a good writer. But it's been his year.

- DC: THE NEW FRONTIER in any form deserves to be nominated for something.

- RUNAWAYS so deserved a nod if YA got one. It actually shipped on time is a continuing franchise.

Interesting list.

you're right on the money about dc: the new frontier. that book was terrific. as far as eternals is concerned, i just couldn't get into it. i love gaiman and i love jrjr, and i really wanted to love this book, but it just wasn't happening. i don't know what it is about gaiman's marvel stuff, but it always seems to fall short for me.

I liked THE ETERNALS. No, it wasn't perfect, but firstly, Romita Jr's art was fantastic. Secondly, he managed to embrace a lot of the big headed concepts of the "new gods" like the Eternals and weave it into a sort of myth, while beginning on a street level basis and catching up people who never bothered with it in the 70's.

Yes, I can almost imagine Darthphere or someone else going, "Okay, so you can give Eternals a try, but not Captain America?" Logically, it does seem daft. But at this point the biggest hurdle, besides the fact I've never cared to read a CA book, is that I would have to catch up on two year's worth of material, and that costs green. One collective hardcover is not happening, because it is a hot book so Marvel will milk the **** out of it. When one hardcover does come out, it'll be ridiculously overpriced.

Plus, if I liked it, I'd have to go on some sort of retraction statement after all the Cap death b****ing and then I'd get even more razzing than I do now, therefore not making it worth it.

I wouldn't razz you....a lot.:oldrazz:

You'd use it to debunk any criticism of any preview or franchise idea that I give for a full calender year. If I was lucky. :o

It's a moot point, though. It's either going to be 2 HC's or 4 TPB's and I haven't the cash for that at the moment.

I truly think Ed Brubaker deserves the nod.I read all his stuff and his weakest stuff is Uncanny X-men.Which besides Astonishing is the best X-men book out.

His IMMORTAL IRON FIST rocks, even if he does co-write that with Fraction, who must get equal credit on that one. ;)
