The Champions July 2007

Well Herc and Angel siding with the Hulk is good enough for me.

Huh? I have to catch up on my scuttlebutt! Herc and Hulk together simply spells devastation to EVERYONE else.

The cover looks cool. Still on the fence of picking this up though. Fraction is a good writer, so who knows. What he said abouth Champions sounds interesting. I didn't like the way things were turning out for The New Avengers, but I bought the issue and now I think it's awesome. So I might do the same with #1. Maybe...

I kind of hate it when writers go, "don't get attached to anyone". Then why should I buy it? You have to connect with some characters, otherwise it's just a waste.

The last CHAMPIONS series lated 17 issues. In the 70's, that was considered a failure. In 2007, that is a year and a half, longer than a lot of new titles last. We'll see what happens. Not really sold on the concept but Fraction hasn't failed me yet at Marvel. Least not majorly. I still say it's a wasted chance to revive the original team, especially with Ghost Rider & Hercules having gained some steam lately.

I always say to not judge something without seeing it or reading it first. So yeah, I'm not exactly sold on this book yet, so eventually yes, I might end up buying the first issue to give my opinion about it.

I think even if Fraction wanted to,he wouldn't be able to get the orignals together since many of them with the exception of Angel and Herc are tied up in other books.

But hey,we're getting Herc and Angel in the Hulk books,so it's all good.

No you don't.

And if it was now, instead of 17 it would have gotten 5 instead.

how's that logic work? do you read marvel comics these days?

spider-man's "tied up" in his own books, yet somehow finds time to play the with new avengers. wolverine's the same, except he's splitting two teams. iron fist just joined a team, while apparently still having time for his own book.

Iceman and Black Widow are already on their own teams,X-Men and Avengers respectively. So you're telling me they could be on the teams they are already on and still be in the new Champions team?

I don't think you're reading Marvel Comics, because we all know the only characters allowed to be on more than 1 team at once is Wolverine.

awesome job at completely missing the point.

this is superhero comics. if marvel thinks fans want something, or they're sure something is going to sell huge, it will happen. that's business. the reason there's not going to be any old-school champions books in the future is because (truth be told) they don't sell well.

if marvel though it'd be a consistent top ten seller, they'd put wolverine and aunt may in a "buddy cop" comic book.

MIGHT give this book a chance.....Just might. Def good to see Herc there

What cover?

Only picture I see in any of the articles about this is a panel from CW #6.

Anyway, don't really care for the premise, so I think I'm gonna pass.

I think Punisher's talkin about this pic

WHAT THE HELL! Namorita?!

and I thought Angel got De-powered?!

Dude, this team is new... that's Hulk obvioulsy post Planet Hulk, and the New Scorpion... and.. again, what the hell, Namorita is supposed to be dead (as is Namora for that matter, cover all bases), and I could have sworn that Angel was supposed to be a victim of M-Day.

I don't what? Some "serial" shows make this mistake, killing characters too quickly. If you can't connect to anyone and the team doesn't have some stability, then it becomes a "wait to see who dies" contest, like a lot of X-STATIX. And that was played for laughs.

Naturally, the 70's saw longer runs than nowadays, the market is more hostile to new books.

Hadn't seen that picture before; very interesting. FYI, that is Namora, recently resurrected in AGENTS OF ATLAS, not Namorita. Naturally that's AMAZING FANTASY's Scorpion (a SHIELD super-agent), Hulk, Hercules, and Archangel.

That cover looks awesome. I've been waiting for this since Giant-Size Hulk, the special that came out last year.

i liked the bit about a 12 month lengh of service tha sonds like what stark was supposedly doing with his"bodyguard"iron man

Does everybody remember the House of M stuff now? If the Hulk and Scorpion remember it, that would explain Scorpion's presence on the Hulk's team. She and the Hulk teamed up once before in the Hulk's HoM arc.

Edit: Also, I just noticed on Scorpion's Wikipedia entry that her SHIELD handler was none other than Derek Khanata, the same dude who acted as SHIELD's liaison to Jimmy Woo's team in Agents of Atlas, of which Namora was a member. This is like six degrees of Marvel now...

Okay what are you arguing here exactly? You were whining like a school girl about wanting the old team back and I told you how that's not possible.I never commented on how the book would sell if the old cast was used, and now you're giving me an idiotic lecture about the business of it all.

Please, enlighten me on what exactly you are trying to get out of that dumbass head of yours.

God,you have bad taste and you're an idiot. What else,do you sleep with your grandmother?

Unnecessary. I think what Jonesy was trying to get across is that Marvel nowadays is just slapping on names on teams that don't represent anything that the original creators embodied. They may be called The Champions, but they don't represent what the Champions should be. Which is a rag tag group of mismatched people working together to save the world.

Well, nobody's working to save the world at Marvel anymore. Their interests are decidedly smaller in scale these days.

Except the dudes in Annihilation. They were working to save the whole damn universe. I think that's why Nova's gonna be so pissed at Earth's heroes when he comes back.

I like the description of those issues. "Nova comes to Earth to take a much needed break"
