How many times has DC done giving Vertigo stuff chances in movies? Constantine, V for Vendetta, Stardust, A History of Violence...

They won't last so much inside public consciousness/awareness as the past have shown no matter how good the Vertigo-based films are. Say, compare Constantine to Thor you know what I mean. What's needed for WB is movie franchises, not just a one off thing.

Constantine was nothing like the comics I've read, Stardust was a book first I believe and A history of Violence wasn't Vertigo. So that leaves us with V for Vendetta. Which to be fair is a decent film, not brilliant, but decent.

The biggest one from what they have made could have been The Losers, but they royaly fecked that one up. They took away everything that made it more than an action film and made it just another action film. They could have gotten two movies out of that series easy.

Others have mentioned other characters and movies, but lets be honest, it's about the quality of the movie over anything else. Like I said about the Constantine moive, it's an awful film barely based on the character. If they'd done it properly they could have had a nice little fanchise going there.

Vertigo are graphic novels not comic books. But would love to see more films come out from them.

After they're compiled into volumes you can get away with calling them graphic novels.

My opinion, if they ever decide to do a Justice League movie, it should go like this:
GO WITH THE BIG GUNS. We need the A-list characters or noone will be interested.
DISREGARD ALL EXISTING MOVIE FRANCHISES. Don't try to base it on Nolan's Batman or any established Superman or Green Lantern. New cast across the board. Just approach it like the animated movies.
DON'T BUILD IT UP. Don't take the Avengers approach. Just dive into it, w/the team already established. Go straight to the action or else you'll end up with an Avengers knockoff.

Looks like it. I mean there has been so many problems with Marvel movies. Some of the movies were failures (Blade: Trinity and Elektra) because they were mishandled and X3 seems to be mishandled by FOX. Yet, while all this, is happening, DC is making a comeback in movies. Batman and Superman movies are already in the works, with one coming this year and the other coming next. And more are sure to follow because Batman and Superman are iconic figures. Fantastic Four is Marvel's saving grace this year, if it fails, Marvel will suffer heavily. Plus, DC is getting real talent to take over its movies ( i.e. Christopher Nolan, Bryan Singer, etc).

I never get if Swamp Thing movie is ever a good idea. Yeah, the comic stuff might pull geekier readers through story, but you shouldn't expect plain moviegoers to find a mo-cap man dressed like tree/moving CGI of tree with eyes interesting. This first impression kill the number of potential audiences.

This goes for Man-Thing too, BTW. However Marvel seemingly more numerous superhero characters usually put Man-Thing on the back of the list of wanted character for movies.

Honestly I think almost any of these characters put in a story with the proper context can work if competently handled.

I'm not real familiar with Swamp Thing but Man-Thing, if handled correctly, would make a great supernatural revenge horror.

It really just requires a company willing to take a risk putting it in the hands of creative teams with the vision to make it happen.

Yes, and it got put away in favor of Batman: Year One, which got put away in favor of Batman Begins.

I think if things go right at the end of the TDKR, I think Beyond can fit very well as a futuristic version of the Nolanverse. I don't think it will happen, but I think it would be the best route.

Future Gotham can be like the TV show. I think the feel of the Beyond animated series can certainly be in line with Nolanverse. More out there things could happen because it is future.

What I would do is this, focus on making Man of Steel an awesome movie. That movie's success is absolutely essential. Now, assuming that movie does very well critically and financially, the next move would be to do a World's Finest movie with the first cinematic meeting of Batman and Superman. Maybe hint at a larger DC universe but JUST focus on them. I mean you could pretty much imagine the marketing for it, it could potentially be one of the biggest superhero movies of all time.

Assuming that movie does very well then I would do a sequel called World's Finest: Trinity and introduce Wonder Woman.Now assuming that movie is also a big success, then and only then would we move into Justice League bringing Green Lantern, Flash and maybe Aquaman as ancillary characters but if the audience responds well to them then they can do spinoffs.

DC can surely do whatever it wants, but adding Superman to Nolan's Bat-verse just doesn't fit in any way, IMO. I think you'll need to reboot Batman before you can do this in order to pull it off correctly.

That wasn't the case from 1978 to 1998, when only DC movies were successful at the box office and Marvel only produced stuff like Howard the Duck. Its only in the last decade that Marvel has outdone DC in terms of movies.

The problem is the previous movies built up hype for Avengers which made that movie a big success. An JLA movie without a build up wouldn't have as much hype and would have explain who most of the characters are to general audience, taking time away from the main plot and focus of the movie.

Also, it would suffer for that the GA doesn't know or care about most of the characters. Really, its easy for comic book geeks to forget, but even guys like Flash and Green Lantern are basically nobodies, as far as the GA is concerned.
