Marvel's losing its edge and DC's getting its back

V for Vendetta was a backup? No way. It was made because the Wachowski brothers et al. loved the concept so much. They didn't care if the audience wasn't familiar with the graphic novel. Promotions would get them to watch it.

Marvel doesn't have to worry about exhausting their 'flagship' characters anymore than Warner Bros. WB has used Bugs Bunny many times. And Marvel can tell different stories with their different characters. WB can do the same with DC's characters if they showed more enthusiasm.

lol comparing franchises to bugs bunny is just... wrong lmao

Main names of marvel may be used up since 2000's blitz kicked off things with X-Men, and they could fade away soon having run its course or mismanaged, so in that vein, id say they do have to worry, if they plan on making their miscellaneous titles just action spectacles and nothing else.

And i dont know how you misinterpreted "backup" and got offended lol. In terms for dc, it was a supporting film for the main two flagship franchises of Batman and Superman. Its always good for a lesser known DC film to come and knock one out of the park. In that way, its a backup, a reinforcement.

That's sad. Other comic book films should never be seen as a backup or support of more popular franchises. That includes Constantine. If these films were just action spectacles then they wouldn't be worth producing. You might say the same for DC's other heroes like Green Lantern and Flash. They don't much to offer if you put it that way. They're not even that unique with their different versions.

Finally, Superman and the Justice League are just as much a product as the Looney Tunes. If you'd visit the Warner Bros. stores you'd see how much they've treated them that way. T-shirts, mugs, toys, etc.

I don't know why it has to always be about Marvel vs. DC. I'm very critical of the latest releases from both Brands. :down

While I wasn't that dissapointed with X3 and SR,I definitely fear for both Marvel and DC's futures. If this Green Lantern movie gets made, all hope is lost and DC will be shooting themselves in the foot. Ant-Man? I think he's an underrated character but I don't think he needs a movie just yet. And Hulk 2 is looking like quite the pile.

Both companies are slipping in the creative department.

The reason why I keep going to box office is because that, unlike anything else that can be said on this thread, is a proveable fact. Whether or not X3 was better than Superman Returns is a matter of opinion. I throughly enjoyed X3. I also liked FF. The last Marvel movie that disappointed me was Elektra. I also enjoyed both V & Batman Begins. But guess what? That's MY personal opinion. It means nothing to ANYONE but me. As far as I'm concerned, Marvel hasn't "lost their edge" as long as I like the movies they put forth. As for DC/WB, until I enjoy something of theirs from somebody who DOESN'T wear a black cape, I can't say that they have much of an edge either.

Yes they are.....Last great marvel movie was Spider-man 2...DC last great one was Batman Begins.....X3 was Junk,FF and Hulk was overwhelmly negative and not good films and is deemed by holywood as one of the worst superherofilms....Singer missed a beautiful opportunity to start the Superman franchise over but tried to make a film for his child hood hero rather than a Superman movie..which was dumb....All Hail Spider-man & Batman....

Spider-Man 2 is superior to Batman Begins, because Dc has a good film, this does not mean, that Batman Begins is similar or in the same league to another film, Batman Begins was a good film for Dc, but only for Dc, because Batman Begins is still an average comicbook movie.

Define 'average'. Remember, Batman doesn't have super powers.

Umm No its not....Maybe thats a good thing to know that a Sequel is just a tab better than a Origin story...Spider-man 2 is great and on Par with Batman Begins...we haven't hit the sequel to BB yet and that says alot....Maybe you should match BB and Spider-man 1...and Since when is Batman Begins an average Film?....

Since people started forming their own opinions rather than let others tell them what to think.

Agreed on all points.

Superman Returns sucked, it's disappointing BO showed the rest of AMerica agree so at this point, I think we can all agree that DC and Marvel are tied for huge amounts of suckage

Good post. Wolverine 3 sucked though

People need to chill as DC tends to be only doing two heroes and Marvel as of right now is only doing one hero well.

really don't know how you can say that when DC only has Batman locked in while Marvel has um lets see

Ghost Rider, Spiderman 3 (which given the release date could shatter records) FF2, Iron Man and The Increadible Hulk all lined up

He's just voicing what quite a few people have been saying. Yes DC/Warner Brothers have to get off their ass and release more movies besides Superman and Batman.

But Marvel's movies since Spiderman 2 left something to be desired. It's great that they have a bunch of movies lined up but I'm starting to go into Marvel's movies with a lowered sense of expectations after the last 2 years.

But DC's only doing an adequate job w/Batman. Supes Returns was a waste of time & money

Well I thought Superman Returns was decent and lightyears ahead of X3.

Sure Marvel has FF2 coming out and Incredible Hulk but both of those movies look like they are going to suck something major. While Iron Man can go either way and we'll see in 2008 how that pans out.

Marvel had the X-Men franchise but then they let Tom Rothman run that franchise into the ground and ruin it. So now they have Spider-Man and DC has Batman.

I'd say they're pretty even then.

WHy is it do you think that FF2 will suck? I admit I am iffy on the Hulk but hey I liked the first one and really want to see the CGI back in place and better for a 2nd time around.

But with FF2 they have the silver surfer and a strong actor behind him, they have more money in the budget and a fan base established. Despite the terrible reviews FF had a fun factor that will have people back in the seats, and IMO it will crush Transformers if Transformers is hel bent on oeping in the same weekend.
