Mass Effect 2

Why's that? My first playthrough on both games was with an adept (and the same will go for ME3; it's my favourite class), and I found that it was more difficult starting out with an adept in ME than it was in ME2. Also, adept + sniper rifles in ME2 for the win.

Might not recommend it on insanity, though.
Really? That's weird.

Most everyone concurs that Adepts are harder/weaker in ME2 due to the different types of enemy protection, as WomanSpideyFan (:hrt:) mentioned above. Soldiers can pewpew it faster, and every other class has a way through it faster than Adepts do.

This isn't the case in ME1, and so Adepts are a tad easier. I did leave the caveat that they're still squishy.

The different types of enemy protection are the key to ME 2. You can play any class pretty well once you get the hang of the game; it's more about which other squadmates you pick to ensure you can damage all types of shielding effectively (unless you've memorized missions and their enemies, in which case you can just pick the characters who damage those particular enemies' shielding the best).

Personally, I was a Soldier and then a Vanguard for ME 1, but I'm partial to Adepts and Sentinels in ME 2 because I like sniper rifles and I like biotic powers. Setting people up with a biotic squadmate and then blasting them to s*** with Warp is really satisfying to me.

Yes, that works too. I tend to fall back on my submacs or AR a lot even as an Adept. While I do like sniper rifles, I never said I was a good shot. :awesome:

I think its a safe bet that we'll see some kind of alteration to the way biotics interact with defenses in 3.

That stasis was favorably received after players (not myself) *****ed about the biotic vs armor restriction, especially in the case of the Adept, and that stasis ignores all protection altogether indicates to me that they'll do something to change up the dynamic as it currently exists.

I never bothered with Stasis. I'm not really an "immobilize and worry about 'em later" kind of person. I just like to kill s*** right off. Then again, I never play any of the harder difficulties.

On Insanity its pretty essential since everything and anything can kill you, being able to freeze somebody flanking your position and regrouping elsewhere is a life saver.

pshhh maybe in the first game, it's the only difficult I can play the 2nd one on. :o

hey........thanks for your tips everyone!!

I'm renting the game for 360, so I'll have the chance to play around with it until I get it for PS3 in Jan.........

I agree that other classes have superior methods for circumventing enemy protection in ME2--I think the reason I found adept to be more difficult starting out in ME1 than ME2 is because of the comparatively weak defense of adepts in the first game.

Still, love the class in both games. Whether it's knocking an entire room on it's ass with a single throw in ME1, or methodically picking apart enemies without firing a shot in ME2, adept is always the way to go for me.

Yeah, I enjoyed biotics so much in ME 2 that toward the end, actually having to fire a shot in a fight felt kind of like a failure to me.

Finally! Mass Effect! On the PS3! As a huge fan of the franchise, I was waiting for another excuse to play through Mass Effect 2. New and exclusive to the PS3 version of BioWare's RPG is an interactive comic that summarizes the events of the first Mass Effect. It's a clever workaround to Microsoft's publishing rights to the first game, and considering the importance of these choices in subsequent games, the effort is much appreciated. Unfortunately, after "playing" the comic, I couldn't help but wonder if it was enough to ease newcomers into the franchise.

Although most of the game's expansions are included on the Blu-ray disc, you'll have to download and install the free comic from the PlayStation Store before starting the game. The comic is also not the first thing you experience in the game -- you'll have to play Mass Effect 2's impactful intro sequence first. The comic book sequence takes place in-between Shepard's first encounter with the enigmatic Collectors and his arrival at the Cerberus station. (If you opt not to download and install the comic DLC, the game will continue as it did in the original version.)

While its position is unexpected, the interlude offers a perfect place for Shepard's life to flash before his (or her) eyes. (Both voice actors of Shepard provide narration for the comic, so don't be afraid to create an Oprah Shepard of your own!) The pace of the comic is incredibly swift, jumping from one crucial event to the next.

I could follow along perfectly well -- but I've already played this game. Without any knowledge of the franchise, I wondered: "Would I be able to follow?" I think the answer would be: "Just barely."

Considering how lengthy the original's campaign was, it's unsurprising that much would be lost in the translation. Key moments of decision making are retained, but the format has a brevity that's seemingly inappropriate for these situations. With much of the context removed, it's hard to fully appreciate how delicate of a situation is when you simply have to choose "yes" or "no." Iconic moments of the first campaign are all reduced to simple options on the dialogue wheel.

I would've loved to see some of the less crucial decisions make an appearance in the story, as they add so much "flavor" to the Mass Effect universe. For example, what would you do to a fan that seemed a bit too obsessed with you?

Although it's disappointing the comic doesn't go into more detail than it does, it still sets the framework for Mass Effect 2, a game worth playing regardless of your experience with the franchise. With the PS3 version offering most of the DLC on-disc, and the added bonus of tech from Mass Effect 3, there's almost no excuse for PS3 owners to miss BioWare's hit. If you feel like the comic doesn't serve you well enough, might I suggest a helpful visit to the Mass Effect wiki?

I'm debating getting a PS3, one of the reasons being to play a prettier version of ME2.

I'm so torn.

Like I've said before, I'll probably pick up the PS3 version just because (and I hate to say it) I find it hard to play through the first one anymore. I think it just feels that dated compared to 2.

Yeah I'm doing a playthrough of 1 and its hard going.

I wish they'd put out a remake of ME1 with the new combat. Would Bioware be allowed to do that? Probably not, ah well.

It still has a charm about it. In ME2 I really miss being able to randomly shoot at things in civilized areas, and I do miss the feel of exploration when you take the Mako out for a spin. Plus I can't imagine playing without all the little things carrying over. Parasini buyin you that beer, reminding Tali you helped her complete her pilgrimage, coming across Conrad Verner cosplaying as you lmfao, it just wouldn't feel the same without those little bridging interactions.

PS3 gamers have the benefit of not knowing though so, can't miss out on what you don't know you're missin. :o

The MAJOR choices willl carry over from what you choose in the little comic, who lives, who dies, ect.
