Mass Violence in America: the All Inclusive Thread

"He's Muslim" was likely trending because a lot of left-wing accounts assumed based on the man being captured alive that he was a white man. Meena Harris literally said as much in her b.s. apology.
Sad to say, but I had that same thought all on my own, but mainly because most mass shooters ARE white. When was the last time one was even Black?

I don't get what argument is being made when it comes to race. What does the color of someone's skin have to do with the reason they shot somebody?

If you are referring to the several posts before yours....they are talking about how statistically in the past, if a shooter was black, he was more likely to be killed by the police than a white shooter was.....and this shooter was brought out alive. If you are not referring to the previous posters and are seriously asking "What does the color of someone's skin have to do with the reason they shot somebody?"....I have to ask where have you been hiding all your life?

The one guy in Virginia a couple years ago who shot up the workplace or maybe the kid in Alabama at that high school game. Though it depends of what we're defining as a mass shooting. 4 or more victims wounded which is sometimes used, then a lot the violence in Chicago, Birmingham, or St. Louis is considered a mass shooting.

Oh okay I see. I thought this was about the reason he did it. Yeah mass shooters should be swiss-cheesed on the spot. Black, white, whatever. None of them should be brought in alive. Back in the day when "going postal" was more of a thing, they used to have the decency to take their worthless hides out themselves.

I guess I don't think of city or drug violence the same way as a mass shooting, which is probably wrong. The Virginia shooting, that was the naval yard, yes? I forgot about that one. Yes, that was a Black shooter.

How about everyone get a fair trial since an alleged mass shooter might be innocent?

We have civil liberties in the United States which include due process.

You may have assumed I was saying its the police who should do the deed. If we did it my way, the swiss-cheesing would be done by the law abiding citizens who are protecting themselves and their families.

This does not make your point any better. Citizens taking the law into their own hands can have disastrous consequences. Especially when firearms are involved.

You know what else can have disastrous consequences? Some dude shooting at me and I can't defend myself. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

So sure of your accuracy in a situation that it is defense, not making matters worse?

I agree. Which is why we should make that a near impossibility in the US. Like they have in other developed countries.

Does anything about his attempts to sound like an 80s action star suggest he has considered that issue? Or that if a black man tried to defend himself in such a manner, he has just as much to fear from being shot by the police or another "good guy with a gun"?

I guess things differ in your world, but the greatest threats to my personal life have never been from a white man, nor a police officer. It's been from my peer group. So yeah, I need the ability to defend myself at a moment's notice, because when life and death are on the line, I can't rely on anyone but me. It's not about being a 80s action hero. I'm in a grocery store minding my own business and some guy comes in on a murder spree? Its kill or be killed, not let's wait and let the police sort this out.

No one is perfect but I'll take my chances with my training. Obviously that is a bad situation no matter which way it goes.

We may of had a mass shooting averted in Lexington Kentucky today. The Versailles Police (Versailles is a nearby city) called the UKHPD (University of Kentucky Hospital police department) to watch for a certain person going there to see a patient. The police stopped him as he was going in, and found him wearing a flak vest and having handguns and a couple of explosive devices on him. They took him without incident....but there's no telling what could have happened.

"May?"

It's possible he was stopping by on his way to "fill in the blank".

Glad he got stopped. Sounds scary. :(

I don't think of them as the same either really, street crime opposed to random killings at work or some public place like this recent one in Colorado. Both are horrible of course and there are innocents too that get caught in the crossfire of drug/street violence but depending on where someone lives it doesn't feel like a concern.

I was thinking of this shooting in Virginia Beach.

Final report finds no motive in Virginia Beach mass shooting

This is not a game. Please do not treat it like one.
Oh I don't. I take my life very seriously. These are heinous crimes that no one wants to be involved with, but I just think we all should learn how to defend ourselves and our loved ones to the best of our ability.

And I don't think people who decided to go out and mass murder innocent people indiscriminately should be one of the folks that got leave the scene of *their* crime alive. Call me crazy.

No crime, no matter how heinous, deserves summary execution. That is one of the foundation of our constitution. There are situations where lethal force is necessary, of course. But they are far fewer than what the police will try to convince you of.
