The gaming community is merely the face of the deeper, more insidious issue here. Before it was gamers the face was Anonymous and the chans (which arguably are still behind it) and after this it will be some other group, likely the unfortunately named "Men's Rights Activist" group(s) before yet another face is applied to the same ugly troll behind it all.

Oh are they still pretending GamerGate is anything other than a cover to harass people?

I know enough gamergaters to know that such sweeping generalisation is far from the truth.I mean, even people like Totalbiscuit ( check his own criticism of Anita Sarkeesian and the anti-gamegate movement )leans closer to the Gamer gate ideals .It is more of an amorphous , decentralized collusion of activists and *******s under a quasi-unifying tag.And the *******s are the loudest front.
