Mass Violence in America: the All Inclusive Thread

Even the shooter was Latino, yes? I don't see race factoring in this at all.

He was, yeah and I agree in not seeing race as a factor. Had the shooter been white, I definitely would've thought it was another situation like the El Paso shooting a couple years ago.

Exactly whats in my post. Was the criminal negligence and the choices made by authorities a result of racism? The racial makeup of an entire police force doesn't really rule racism out if the ones on the scene are racially biased or prejudiced or just dont care.

The police being mostly Latino doesn't even rule out prejudice. Latinos are not a single group, and there are existing prejudices between Mexicans and Central Americans. But Idk what groups make up most of the Uvalde community so I can't really say if that could be an issue inthe Uvalde community.

From what I've read, a resource officer passed by the school and didn't see the shooter who hid behind a vehicle before entering the school. When police did arrive, there were already a number of victims. The shooter and police traded fire and he hit a couple, they backed off and called for tactical team/gear (more on that in a minute). The commander in charge, Arredondo (who didn't have his radio btw), decided not to send in units to the classroom believing it to be a barricaded suspect at that point and not an active shooter. If any of that is wrong, feel free to correct it. What I gather from that info is the police were not prepared to handle the threat and made the wrong choice not to breach the classroom sooner. Their poor response is explained without your illogical racism theory.

You mentioned police sending border patrol in first, which isn't really true. Police entered the school and traded fire with the shooter but did not enter the classroom. They called in BORTAC which a tactical unit of border patrol to bring equipment. One or two Bortac agents and another LEO entered the classroom behind a shield, traded shots with and killed the shooter. Here's some more info on what Border Patrol does, it's not just deportations and border security.

Border Patrol Agents Killed the Uvalde School Shooter. But Why Were They on the Scene?

44% is just shy of 50% of the Republican Party and as we have seen when a Republican politician actually hints they would support some gun control their base violently reacts against it.

What kind of Barney Fief bull**** is this?

I live in the US and I watch all kinds of gun filled action movies and yet I don't go out shooting people because I watched it in a movie. I don't even own a gun.

I also watch a lot of movies with swords. I don't own one nor go around trying to hack and slash my way through the public.

I watch racing movies, and I do own a car yet somehow I manage to not treat the neighborhood street as a drag racing track.

And the number of horror movies and games I have watched and played? I should be putting every psycho killer to shame with my body count. If again, that was actually a thing.

:funny:
But, damn, I wish I had Thor’s hammer. I would be seriously Fing some people up. They wouldn’t be school kids, but I’m not sure I would abide by the Sokovia accords.

So the violent movies are a nonfactor or other countries would also have a ton of mass shootings also.
They would have mass shootings too if their people had the same access to guns that we do, was my point.

Its a combination of problems. Violent media content alone can't cause it. Violent content, right wing propaganda, easy gun access, and mental health issues combined on the other hand... that's a recipe for disaster and tragedy.

Itd be foolish to entirely disregard media content's impact on us. All media content effects our outlook and it can reinforce or encourage ideas we have and give us ideas. Sane people can pretty much deal with it. Unbalanced people can't. And I think people only a century ago would be seriously disturbed if they saw even a fraction of the content modern people are exposed to every day. Modern media has allowed people to make even their most violent fantasies play out realistically and stream it directly into people's homes. It cant be healthy to expose ourselves to so much violent imagery throughout our lives. And if we are going to indulge in violent media the mature thing to do is acknowledge that it could be impacting us and our society.
