Fantasy Masters of the Universe - Part 3

You don't necessarily have to show his abs at all...lol...

We never saw Frank Langella's abs, and it was a pretty cool performance as Skeletor.

Skeletor has a 6-pack because Mattel didn't want to pay for an additional torso mold. Not really necessary for this character, especially in a live action movie, but fine for the action figures.

I think it's a sign that this movie is going nowhere when Skeletor's abs are the main topic of conversation in this thread.

It doesn't seem like the movie is going anywhere. It seems like that release date was just picked out as a deadline more than anything.

They don't have a director or a finished script. They don't have a star. If they want to keep that 2018 release date, they are going to have to get started soon.

Evil Ash. That's the Skeletor route to go.

Yeah too bad we will never see imagery like that realized in live action :D

The actual kitten would be more effective in combat than Panthor ever was.

Couldn't Skeletor be, you know...skeletal?

Like Lord Ainz from Overlord? No. Skeletor typically isn't skeletal outside of his head.

In Overlord, Lord Ainz Ooal Gown has a skeleton body though.

But that's Ainz Ooal Gown/Momonga. Not Skeletor.

Why, conceptually, couldn't he be more skeletal in appearance?

If the issue is "How would he sword fight He-Man?", the explanation is fairly simple...sorcery.

He's not a skeleton person he just has a skull for a head due to what happened to him. Everything else is completely normal.

Is there a reason he couldn't be more skeletal?

Going by the Keldor origin, his face is like a skull because it was deformed. His original origin basically had him as a demon from another dimension. Later on in the 80s, he was reformatted to be a son of King Miro and the biological uncle of He-Man. I think in that backstory, he went to another dimension and experimented with dark magic, which turned him into Skeletor. In the 2002 animated series, his face was covered with acid, and Hordak healed him and turned his head into a floating skull.

He's never been designed as a full body skeleton. It's never been one of his design hallmarks. He has the skull head and that's about it.

Why should he be more skeletal though? This isn't Skeleton Warriors or Overlord.

I loved that bit, and I really hope they keep that for the movie. It'd be cool to sneak it in there kind of like in Empire Strikes Back when one of the imperial lieutenants catches a glimpse of Vader putting his helmet on. We'd see him with his hood down long enough to think, "Where's his f$%&ing neck??"

Yup. I love the idea that his head is just a skull floating there due to dark magic. I also love Skeletor's reaction when he sees what his face became. Like the reality drove him even more insane. It's not just that he has a scarred face, he basically doesn't have his own head anymore. It would make anyone go over the edge and want to take over Eternia :)

Obviously, that's not the only take on Skeletor's head, but that was a change I thought that worked. I recall in New Adventures, he's not missing a neck, and I think he even had ears. But that was a more comedic take on Skeletor as well.

Man...Frank Langella knocked it out of the park. I remember once I had gotten older and really started appreciating acting and film making as a craft and I realized Langella had played Skeletor, that performance and how awesome it was made so much more sense. I just have to wonder if he was looking across the room at Dolph Lundgren asking himself..."What the **** am I doing? I'm in a movie with someone named Gwildor for **** sake, and once I cosmically 'power up', I have a golden pig mask...my agent is so ****ing fired..."

That video says McG is directing the movie. Entertainment Weekly reported he was off the project last April.

Fake news.

I'm sorry but those rumors sound fake as well. The Rock as Stratos? Are you kidding me? When is the Rock even going to have time to work on this movie with all of his other projects lined up? Second of all, you don't get The Rock in this movie and have him play such a tertiary character like Stratos.

Gary Oldman as Trapjaw? Where did that rumor even start?

This sounds like the dumb rumors of like Meryl Streep playing Rita Repulsa in the Power Rangers movie. Like MTV did a fan casting article and people reported the fan casting article as actual movie news rumors.

Sam Heughan from Outlander would make an amazing He-Man. Dude looks like he was born to play the role.
