Matt's Thread of Racing...

This is great article by Duane Cross.

Talladega

And Jimmie Johnson is a ****ing sissy. If he honestly thinks they're going fast, he needs to watch the Indy 500. :whatever:

Terry Blount and I agree on the Yellow Line Rule

Terry_Blount

Really good articles. I see the other side of the yellow line arguement, but if it was modified so that dipping below to avoid causing a wreck due to a block would not be penalized, it would still do its job and allow Kesolowski to move below the line to prevent a wreck. It would only take Nascar a couple minutes to review the footage to see he would have gone down to avoid the block and would still be awarded the win and Edwards most likely would have finished second.

I'm gald there's someone on here to debate racing with me.

What's your thoughts on the points system? I don't like the fact that a guy who's 12th in points could have 4 wins, the guy in first could have 1 win and they're be separated by 400 points.

The guy in 12th would be ahead of the guy who's first at the start of the chase. To me that's wrong. The guy who's first in points should start at the top. I like what they did in 2004-2006. Started the guy in 1st with 5045 points, the next guy 5040 points and so on. It's much better that way IMO.

Yeah, they wanted to add drama by having drivers go for wins instead of points racing into the Chase. I would keep the Chase at 10 cars, and every driver starts with 5000 points, with the leader at the end of the regular season earning say 50 extra points, while everyone earns ten bonus points for every win. I'm way too tired to think completely straight at the moment, but that's basically how I would have it.

Richmond this weekend.

Pick to win - Kyle Busch
Darkhorse - David Reutimann

I'm not completely into racing, but I keep up with anything big going on....

You're lucky there was no caution during the last 20 laps (WTF) or MY pick would have one. :cmad::whatever:
:oldrazz: Nice job dude.

I should be a NASCAR analyst. Just look at these picks.

There is a lot of unknowns coming into a 2-mile track with the new car. History shows that a Roush or Hendrick driver should win. I like Carl Edwards this weekend.

Won the race at California.

I thought it was a boring race. There were only 3 people who led. That's unusual for Bristol.

California this weekend. I like Greg Biffle to take the checkered flag.

Finished 2nd

Well, I was close. Biffle finished second. Richmond is up next for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. I think Jimmie will take 2 in a row.

Won at Richmond

Denny Hamlin will win this weekend.

Finished 8th.

My favorite driver is Carl Edwards, but I'd love to see Mark Martin win it.

My prediction though is Tony Stewart.

Finshed 8th

Richmond this weekend.

Pick to win - Kyle Busch
Darkhorse - David Reutimann

Won at Richmond.

Jeff Gordon really needed a Top 10 finish after the last 2 races. Good on him

Gordon, Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart are having amazing years this year, considering Gordon and Busch's last season and all of the variables surrounding Stewart and Newman last year, who also had a bad year last year.

If Dale Jr. were in the NFL Draft, I'd have called him a massive bust by now. Even with Hendrick power, he still can't get a win (Throwing out the lucky win at Michigan).

David Reutimann and Marcus Ambrose have really impressed me this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them get in victory lane. Ambrose I'm leaning more towards winning on a road course.

I forgot to mention these two. Michael Waltrip may need to step aside from racing to assume an owner role, but he's got two GREAT drivers who are developing far better than I expected. Ambrose will win a road course this year and Reutimann should get a win this year. Who would have thought these two would excel while Logano has struggled?

Darlington

Pick to win - Carl Edwards
Darkhorse - Martin Truex Jr.

I don't consider Greg Biffle a darkhorse. He finished third in the points last season and he's in the top 12th in points this season.

Carl Edwards' crew chief Bob Osbourne should be kicked in the ass. :whatever: They keep going with a four tire stop and end up back in 16th/17th spot. If he takes two tires, he gains the track position that he needs. It's CLEARLY working for everyone else.

2 tires for Edwards. :wow::applaud

Congrats to Greg Biffle. What a great team mate

I consider anyone as a possible darkhorse other than who I think will win but I won't split hairs there.

Great win for Mark Martin. He is the feel good story of this season and I'm rooting for him all the way.

As if Jr. sounded depressed enough before this race, he finishes 27th and continues to flounder.

A darkhorse pick, IMO, is someone who you don't expect to win that weekend, someone who hasn't won in quite some time or someone who's never won a race. It wouldn't have surprised me if Biffle won at Darlington since he's won there twice.

Great win for Mark Martin. He's going to win more races this season.

Hendrick needs to fix something in the JR. camp. They need to change crew chiefs. It worked over in the RCR camp with Harvick and Mears.

True, but in that case, there's only a handful of drivers to choose from but again, I won't split hairs on it.

I hope he can pry Johnson's fourth straight championship away. What a story it would be for Mark to finally win himself a championship.

I just think it's a mix of bad luck and something wrong in Jr's head. I think he's feeling the pressure of the media, the fans, his team, and it's effecting how he races.

I'd like to see Mark win the championship and follow it up with the 2010 Daytona 500 win. Martin is probably the greatest driver without a championship.

I would've thought the pressure would be over with. He was third in points entering the chase last season. I still think a crew chief change should happen, despite the relationship between him Tony Eury Jr.

That would be a fairytale ending, but it's possible neither could happen. I'm so rooting for a championship from him this year though.

He only won one race last year though, and everyone is expecting far more than that from him, especially with the best equipment in Nascar. A crew chief change didn't work when he was teamed with Michael Waltrip, and Hendrick isn't going to split up Martin, Johnson, and Gordon from their crew chiefs while they're all doing well. It would have to be a completely new chief for Jr.

Hendrick has Lance McGrew on the #25 team the Brad Keselowski ran tonight in the cup race if i'm not mistaken. McGrew worked with Brian Vickers in the Nationwide series and they won a championship together. I think he would be a great replacement. He also got Vickers to his first win at Talladega.

I think it will come to that eventually because that's the only thing Hendrick can do to try and right this ship. Martin was about in the same position a few races into the season and now he's in the top 12, there should be no excuse for Jr. to be struggling like this. He's had some of the worst bad luck this season mixed with frustration and just mediocre performance so something will eventually be done to try and right his ship.

All-Star Race next week. I'm looking forward to that and the pre-race burnout contests.

I love the All-Star race, but it should be held after the season. Then they should add a race into it's spot. Kentucky has been ready for a NASCAR date.

That's actually a great idea. I even wouldn't mind if the schedule went down to 35 races to end the season a bit earlier and give teams a couple weeks before the All-Star race, which they can take to different tracks while Lowe's gets the most over the course of so many years.

I'd love to see a Sprint race at Kentucky or even Nashville. I'd say take one of the two races at places like Las Vegas or Atlanta and add in more short tracks.
