How well has the XBox 360 done overall? PS2 seems to be maintaining it's strength.

THINK OF IT LIKE THIS: WITH ONLY 6 MONTHS BEFORE THE 'PS3' LAUNCH, IT'S FAIRLY SAFE TO ASSUME THAT ANYONE BUYS A 'PS2' THIS LATE IN IT'S LIFE CYCLE.......KNOWING THE 'PS3' IS BC.......LIKELY ISN'T GOING TO BUY A 'PS3'. IN THAT RESPECT, THIS IS GOOD NEWS FOR 'MS'/'360'. :o

That's true.

How well is XBox 360 doing in overall sales? I haven't followed the games market for a while.

IT DEPENDS ON THE SOURCE, REALLY. BUT, U.S. SALES ARE AROUND 1.8-2 MILLION UNITS, AT THIS POINT......I BELIEVE.
THE BAD THING IS, 'MS' IS STILL TRYING TO LAUNCH INTO NEW TERRITORIES, WHICH MEANS A HIGHER % OF THEIR NEW PRODUCT IS BEING PACKAGED FOR FOREIGN COUNTRIES......WHERE SALES WON'T BE AS STRONG. PRETTY MUCH, IT'S U.S. AND EUROPE FOR 'MS', AND THEY'RE DOING FINE IN THOSE AREAS. BUT, IT'S STILL GOING TO BE AWHILE UNTIL YOU SEE A FLOOD OF UNITS TO RETAILERS.

MOST NOTABLY THOUGH, IS THE FACT THAT THEY'RE STILL FEELING THE EFFECTS OF THE INITIAL SHORTAGES. AT THIS POINT, ALOT OF THOSE WHO MISSED OUT AT LAUNCH.....OR WERE JUST WAITING FOR MORE GAMES TO BE RELEASED BEFORE THEY MADE A DECISION.....ARE LIKELY WILLING TO WAIT ANOTHER 4-5 MONTHS TO FIND OUT IF 'MS' WILL DROP THE PRICE BEFORE THE 'PS3' LAUNCH (THEY SHOULD AT LEAST DROP THE "CORE", AND MAKE THE "PREMIUM" THE $300 MODEL, IMO ). SINCE THEY ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE 'PS3' AND 'WII' WILL BE PRICED (APPARENTLY), THEY'LL HAVE TIME TO SAVE $$ FOR THE HOLIDAYS, AND DECIDE WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO BUY. X-MAS 2006 WILL BE A CLEAR INDICATOR OF HOW 'MS' IS DOING THIS GEN ; IF THEY CAN MAINTAIN 200-250K/MONTH UNTIL THEN, THEY'VE GOT A
SHOT AT GAINING A REAL FOOTHOLD ON THE MARKET.
AT THIS POINT, 'SONY' APPEARS TO BE IT'S OWN WORST ENEMY. IT SEEMS THAT EVERY NEW ANNOUNCEMENT/STORY ONLY SERVES TO HURT THE 'PS3' LAUNCH..........AND THE STRONG SALES OF THE 'PS2' CAN'T HELP IT MUCH EITHER.

I thought People were buying the PS3 now because anyone that buys the PS2 now wont be buying the PS3 due to its price. I wonder what the faces of customers are when say they go to any store & they asks about the Price & their reaction is  & since it seems alot of People are now buying the PS2 that can only mean that they are aware of the PS3s Price. I doubt the PS3s BC has nothing to do with it It should be interesting. But the fact that People are now buying PS2s can NOT be a good sign for the PS3. Sony can celebrate all the way but they will soon be getting big **** yous

Thanks for the info

I was definitely going to buy a PS3 before I found out about the cost and started reading some of the negatives on here. PS3 is still the most likely console that I will end up buying (although my confidence in it is wavering) as backward compatability is a big plus and some of my must have games are PS3 exclusive. I would consider buying another system instead/in addition if it was more/equally successful and reasonably priced.

I'll probably wait until after X-Mas 06 to judge which systems are looking good and take advantage of any price drops.

The PS2 had a price-cut, and the 360 had zero releases (the multiplatform Hitman aside).

I'm not surprised at the numbers.

And that picture of Peter Moore holds no purpose. It doesn't make him look stupid, it's not funny, and it doesn't *********e Kutaragi nearly as much as Zenien does on her own.

Another weepy Nintendo fanatic. For whatever consolation it may be worth, it's Nintendo's own fault.

No I think he's saying it's Nintendo's own fault that they fell from grace.

No, I'm blaming Nintendo for the area the fell short in last generation, which was their first-party lineup. They gave a Mario and Zelda that the masses didn't want, though fans pretended they were genious enhancements to the series, though they would have no-doubt been happier with what the masses wanted.

From right out of the gate they were weak with Luigi's Mansion and other obscure concepts like "Super Monkey Ball". After a few months they released a quickly retooled Dinosaur Planet as Starfox Adventures, and it went downhill all the way to the draught we have now.

For a developer as amazing as Nintendo EAD, it's abnormal for them to not have the best game on their system. Resident Evil 4, which is by far the best Gamecube game, was developed and published by Capcom, a third party studio who eventually took the game multiplatform, but that's beside the point.

The point is that if Nintendo gave the people what they want -- because business is afterall, trying to please the largest crowd possible -- they would not have fallen to where they are today.

They only needed to look at what carried them the N64/PSOne generation: Mario 64, Zelda, and a whole lot of Rare games.

What they did last generation was release with no Mario, eventually releasing a subpar adventure but only after selling Rare to Microsoft (though I will admit Rare isn't releasing the super-quality games they used to) and eventually releasing a Zelda that didn't pull in the mass crowds and only sold a fraction of what Ocarina of Time did.

Now, trying to climb back up, instead of doing what the winning companies are doing (and they're winning for a reason: remember the business lession) they are getting more obscure on somewhat low ambition. The Wii is doing a great job of preaching to the choir and stirring internet hype, but if internet hype was proportional to the real world, games sales would be practically inverted and TV programming would be much different.

No one is seeing it coming, but no one's really thinking either. This generation isn't going to hit a lightswitch, it's just going to be a progression of where the last console generation let off: Microsoft catching up to Sony, and Nintendo slipping further into third.

Only they're learning new ways to trip, not how to pick themselves up.

1.7 million currently and the shortages are over by Microsofts own admission. They ended last month with the influx of units, seen most notably by the spike in sales.

PS2 is an unpresidented montser, looking at sales history it's doing a little bit better than the PS1 did at this point. It has only sold under 200k a month 3 times in its entire life.

Disagree.

Unprecendented.

Geez Zenien, if you can't spell big words properly then why bother even using them in the first place?

So you can point them out, dear.

and it's Unprecedented, not Unprecendented. Geez Phaser, if you're going to correct someone and you can't even spell the word right, why bother in the first place.

ACTUALLY, I THINK YOU WERE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME; AFTER THE 'PS3' AND 'BLU-RAY' FAILS, 'SONY' WILL LIKELY DUMP THEIR PRESIDENT/CEO. :p

Goddamn typo. I just got a new laptop, it's got a curvy keyboard layout and the resolution is 1600...everything's tiny. Lucky Zenny, but no biggie for me. Knowing you, I'll have PLENTY of opportunities in the future thanks to your piss-poor spelling. Take solace in your short-lived victory, darling. You and both know it won't last.

I can't wait to see the PS3's numbers. The reason PS2 sold that much is that it was cheap and it was the first console out.

Let's face it. No console priced at 499,99 ever went the distance much less a 599.99 one.
