For a whole night in July, meet the mutants and stand united with those who are different as they fight for acceptance and survival. The X-Men trilogy comes to the biggest screen in Britain, together with the 'not your average superheroes', the Mystery Men. Introduced by Sir Ian McKellen.

Tickets can be booked at the link or you can win them here.

It must be quite a sight to see the movies in IMAX.:word:

You know i haven't even seen that movie yet.:ninja:

Interesting idea.

but how weird it would be to see in the same day the look of the characters in X1 and then in X3, hehe, specially with things like the fake wig of Jean in X3, hahaha.

Indeed. And that's why I'm going to go, just to see all three movies back to back on a big screen and see what I and the rest of the audience seem to think.

At this point the only thing that would get me to see these films in the theater is if Fox paid me. I'm done with this lackluster trilogy and I'm done with Fox until Rothman leaves. Fox won't be getting any of my theater money for a long time.

I'll be waiting for X4, or young x-men..... but definetly won't see Wolverine in theathres.

The trailer can be really great, but I'll see it online.

I'll probably wait week or so and read people's opinions of Wolverine and decide then whether I see it theaters or not. I've had enough of sucky Marvel-movies.

ACTOR Ian McKellen has revealed how he came to star as Magneto in the X-Men films - and of his fears about measuring up to the comicbook version of the character.

The star spoke to movie fans when he introduced a special screening of all three X-Men films at London's IMAX cinema this weekend.

MOVIEGOERS were earlier today treated to a back-to-back screening of the three X-Men blockbusters at London's IMAX cinema.

As an X-Men enthusiast, I joined the scores of film fans for this special all-nighter, which was part of the cinema's comicbook adaptation season.

Introduced by Sir Ian McKellen, who plays villain Magneto in the X-movies, the all-nighter - consisting of 2000's X-Men, 2003's X2: X-Men United and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, followed by 1999's superhero comedy Mystery Men - began about midnight and ended around 8am.

holy smokers... Poor Ian...he probably slept through it. hehe

Hehe... No, he didn't stick around. Despite teasing that he might be there with everyone in the early hours, he left straight after his talk (which started about 11.40pm and lasted until almost midnight). He said he was appearing on a politics talk show the next day (at 9am). Great to see him though.

I can't believe Ian thinks X3 is a good continuation of Singer's work.

Sorry Ian, but I think you are more critical than that.

I saw him on that show. He said he would like to play magneto again as well if the spin off ever gets made.

Well, he was appearing at that event in order to promote the screening of all three movies. If he did dislike the third movie, he was hardly likely to say 'And I'd like you all to see the third film, which is a pile of poop I happily starred in.'

As he clearly says, there are 'clear differences' but not a 'violent break' and that is exactly right. Storylines do carry forward, hence no violent break, but there are distinct differences.

I honestly don't think McKellen hates the third movie. He didn't enjoy working with Singer that much, if i recall, so it may have been a more fun experience for him on the third film. He does acknowledge there are 'clear differences' but you can't expect anything else. It took Famke two years to speak up and she is the only one who has.

I'd like the main actors were a bit more realistic with the film and afirm that it wasn't a good sequel.

Glad Famke did it.

A few years back I would have been excited to see X1 and X2 in the theater again but, X3 really hurt my enthusiasm for seeing the previous films again. I figure there's no point in getting excited to watch a couple of decent films in a triology if the series ends with a horrible sequel. Anyway I decided to re-evaluate X1 and X2 after seeing how great these comic book movies can end up being when a studio gives a director 100% support. I found significantly more enjoyment in most of this summer's comic book films than X1 and X2. The flaws of the first two X-Men movies have continued to become more obvious to me with each passing year to the extent that now I have no desire to watch those films ever again.

"However, I was worried about whether I could take on a man of Magneto's gigantic stature with these amazing powers. But when I saw they had cast a 6ft 2in Australian as the much shorter Canadian character Wolverine, I felt okay about it!""

So let me get this straight - Ian McKellen predicted that Dougray Scott's Mission Impossible 2 schedule would get so far pushed back that Bryan Singer would have to cast the second place Hugh Jackman after shooting already began? Wow, that's clairvoyant.

From the hyperbole spouted from both McKellen and Jackman about how good X3 is, I have to wonder if these two actually saw the movie. They are right in that the film contained the best ideas, they are wrong wrong wrong about it properly executing those ideas.

I'm sure that what Ian McKellen meant is that he had continuing worries over living up to the comicbook role AFTER accepting the role and DURING production - and when Jackman joined he felt somewhat relieved. He was also making a JOKE about similarities of characters to the comicbooks. In other words, there are no grounds to criticise him if there is a 6ft 2in actor playing a 5ft 3in comicbook character. The remark was more intended as a piece of humour than anything, and it did get laughter at the screening - he had a definite smile and a wink when he said it.

I don't recall either of them saying X3 properly executed its ideas. McKellen certainly never said that at the screening I was at. But you have to remember that actors are contractually bound to promote a movie and, in addition to contracts, some actors feel it's unethical and unprofessional to badmouth a movie you have starred in.

It took Famke two years to be able to speak up about the Phoenix role. What she said at the time of the movie was entirely supportive of it.

Why are so many people on here such masters of misinterpretation, over-reaction and taking everything so seriously!?

Its clear to everyone the 3rd movie just didnt live up to the first 2 movies, there are plenty of people who liked X3, but i doubt many would claim it the best of the series. In my personal opinion its one of the worst CB movies ever, not as bad as the likes of B&R and that ilk, but worse than many other CB movies people claim to be poor IMO.

X3 originally put me off watching X1 and X2 again, but when i eventually did, i still found both incredible movies and both sit quite comfortably within my top 15 CB movies. I think if you watch them both, and while doing so put X3 out of your mind completely, you will still enjoy them. I still think the 2nd one especially is a great film.

I find the series as a whole excellent and entertaining but all three movies fail to reach their potential. Even in Singer's movies we had Halle's bad wig in X1 and Wolverine's wobbly claws in X2. Then we get Wolverine's terrible hairdo in X3. I didn't notice those kinds of shoddy props/designs/styling in Iron Man or Incredible Hulk. The three X-movies all seem under-budgeted in several places. I don't have high regard for Ratner, even though I thought Red Dragon an excellent movie, but I wonder as well what kind of X3 Singer would have made with just eight weeks' prep. And I wonder why Ratner didn't bring some of the craft he showed in Red Dragon to the third X-movie.

Because it's fun. :-) Seriously though, I know an actor's position is to promote. I will never forget LL Cool J going on Conan and saying he was happy to promote the movie he was on the show for because he absolutely dreads going on for movies that are awful, punctuating his point with "Rollerball, sucked! This movie does not suck!"

I don't think everything about X3 is bad - it's a good summer popcorn flick. It's fun. But knowing that the studio didn't want a "dark" film, and then having to currently see a very dark comic film out right now, makes me hate X3 at times. I wish after a film is done its cycle that people would feel free to analyze it in a respectful but critical manner. I liked Famke's response that it was a "missed opportunity", and I would LOVE to hear James Marsden's real take on the film given that he is quoted many times after X2 about being excited to see Cyclops' role expanded. Too bad 27 Dresses, Enchanted, and Hairspray came out afterwards. I liked him better than Superman, which I thought was one of the flaws of the movie, since you are clearly supposed to like Superman more.
